Re: FOR SALE - Gaggia PID
Ive had a few enquiries about the sensor that comes with this PID and whether it fits the Silvia.
The sensor that comes with this PID will fit your Silvia if your Silvia was manufactured before September 2006. Auber Instruments do have a newer sensor if your machine is manufactured after Sept 2006. I checked this with Auber Instruments, as I was going to get the current model Silvia.

Re: FOR SALE - Gaggia PID
It allows you to control the brew temp, however theres nothing stopping you from using it to control the steam temp I guess. You could just crank it up to say 150, do your steaming, and then set it back to your brew temp.
It was stuck to the side with double sided tape as this was supplied with the unit. It stuck very well to the Gaggia and didnt budge an inch. It has since been removed and ready to be shipped to its next lucky new owner.
This is a great PID, and I cant recommend it enough for any Gaggia/Rancilio owners out there. I really would like to see this go to another CSer as this is where I learnt about PIDs and found out about this unit. Other PIDs can cost more than double this so if youve been interested in a PID, this is a bargain!
If anyone has any questions, dont forget to PM/email me - Ive had quite a few and Im more than happy to take them.

Re: FOR SALE - Gaggia PID
Does this particular PID set-up just enable you to control the brew temp and monitor the steam temp, or does it also enable you to control the steam temp as well?
I see it appears to be sort of double taped to the side of the Gaggia, is this correct?
thanks
Malcolm

Re: FOR SALE - Gaggia PID
Forgot to mention that this PID Kit can also be used on Rancilio Silvia machines. One of the parameters (I think its cold start) is the only difference and you just need to get the temp sensor for the Silvia available from Auber Instruments.
PM/email me for further details.

!!SOLD!! - Gaggia PID
I have for sale a used Auber Instruments PID Temperature Control Retrofit KIT for Gaggia (model KIT-GG). It is from Auber Instruments in the US and is designed and programmed for Gaggia Classic and Coffee series machines. I bought it in July 2007 and installed it on my Gaggia Coffee Deluxe.
I bought it to improve the temperature stability of the boiler in my Gaggia Coffee Deluxe and to get a better tasting espresso shot. I found the boiler had too much temp fluctuation without it. I was tired of having a sour and cold shot one time and a hot and bitter shot the next.
Installing the PID was straightforward. It made a big difference to the boiler temp stability and also shot temp. It also significantly improved the taste of the espresso. You can easily set the brew water temp to suit your taste and bean variety.
The PID can also be used to monitor the boiler temp when you are steaming. This takes the guess work out of knowing when to start frothing milk to keep the heat element going while youre steaming.
Im selling the PID as I upgraded my espresso machine and no longer need the PID or the espresso machine.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ONLY THE PID KIT IS FOR SALE. This includes:
- the PID itself
- all wires
- the RTD temp sensor that screws into the wall of the boiler in place of the original brew temp thermostat
- the SSR
- the installation instructions and user manual
Obviously, the PID kit will be partially assembled as it has been installed and used.
Installing it is straight forward as long as you have some knowledge of electronics wiring and safety - the instructions are very good. YOU DO NEED TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION INSTALLING IT AS THERE IS 240V UNDER THE HOOD OF YOUR ESPRESSO MACHINE.
It’s for sale at $150 (plus postage). I paid $190 for it so this is a considerable saving. It is still in as new condition. My preference is for Melbourne pickup. I will ship in OZ as long as youre prepared to pay for postage.
Please PM/email me for more details.
Cheers
