  • !!SOLD!!: La Pavoni Europiccola

Due to my lack of space on the kitchen bench, my wifes ever increasing baking business, and my ever increasing coffee machine collection, my beloved Pavoni has been residing in the cupboard for way too long. Ive decided to sell so that it can be used on a regular basis by somebody else.

I bought this machine 2 years ago, it was built in 1973, and gave it a complete going over. Descaled, lubed, seals replaced, and general tidy. Up until a few months ago it was my daily coffee machine. It is a great entry level lever machine and very capable of producing great coffee in the right hands. It does take patience to get it right, but well worth it when you get it right. I will also include my custom made Coffee Lab 49 and a bit mm tamper and a kilo of coffee.

$450 and I can post nationwide.

      Re: FS: La Pavoni Europiccola

      Hi

Whats the main differences between this 1973 one and a modern one?
Any change in design or internals?

I was just lats night searching Google for vintage lever machines to see what was around.

        Oh

        1. What model is it?
EPC-8 Europiccola, Chrome Boiler with Chrome base ???
        or the EL ?

        2. Any trace of scale in the boiler? This effects these machines a lot.

        3. From the pic it looks OK given the age but is the chrome still on the machine or are there regions where it has worn through?

        3. Parts availability? Its nice to have a 1970s machine but to the best of your knowledge are parts for this model still available from La Pavoni agents here?
(This ties in with how much the parts have changed since 1973 to the present)

          Re: FS: La Pavoni Europiccola

I remembered from looking into these a couple of years ago
that one thing that had changed over the years was moving
from a two-switch arrangement for heating up, to one. That
and some other evolutionary changes are mentioned here:

I hope this sells quickly We dont have the room for it,
dont really need it, and trying to save money, but it really is
          very tempting ...

From what I know the design change was just after this model. They changed the group head piston design to make it easier to get into as well as changed the diamter of the basket. The difference between the Europiccola and the Proffesional is that this has no pressure gauge and is an 8 cup model, The Proffessional is a 12 cup model with pressure gauge.

This model has the 2 switches for brew and steam.

Its the EPC-8, all chrome. The chrome is in good condition, the only spot where it has peeled is around the srew in the drip tray which is common in them, but in this example it is minor, and is better than alot of others I looked at.

As I said, I descaled the boiler when I bought it, also changed the seals (parts redily available from the U.S.)

The parts are still 99% identical in brand new machines. The only non origional part is it has a single spout which I put on. It has no single basket but the double is only 12 grams and I dose it at around 10grams which I find perfect for a single shot.

              Re: FS: La Pavoni Europiccola

The single spout is perfect, I wish I had one for my professional model.. The (49mm?) basket is the perfect size for coffee for one..

I think this machine really complements, rather than competes with an electric pump machine like the Silvia. Its more effort to get right but it produces a different flavour profile.. For example Indian Tiger Mountain was my favourite bean when I only had the Pavoni, it was stronger, more full-bodied and chocolatey than using the Silvia...

All parts are readily available from a non-sponsor establishment in Sydney - a simple web search to locate (or PM me).

                  Hi all

                  I have taken the plunge.
Now I shall know whether the members of the "Lever Machine World Domination Plot" are insane or not :-)

Of course you may not hear from me for some time until I can produce a reasonable shot - will that be weeks or months?
