Any chance of having pickups in Brisbane in the future Andy ??
      Belinda
Well we cannot have pickups at your place... when you get evicted for not paying the rent.

I have always been keen to get pickups in all capital (or regional centres) and its just a matter of:
      a: having a venue
      b: having enough CSrs interested
c: finding a good bulk freight price per kilo.

The Melbourne pickups are always a good get together and a chance to talk coffee to like minded nuts.

Last month the Di Bartoli pickup was the first for Sydney and although not many people used it we expect it will grow in size over time.

Perth has quite a few CSrs that might be able to get something going.

      Brissy is similar.

Others states seem to have a wide spread of members away from the capital cities so travel might be more of an issue.

We found a great freight company for the Sydney deliveries at $1 kg and although other capitals will be more expensive they should be under normal express postage prices of $3/kg.

So... we will try and get something moving this week.

Great prices it looks, but it all depends on how much the postage is gona cost doesnt it? Can the postage prices be listed in the bean bay, or at least posted somewhere? Thanks
        Hey there,

As others have said, check out the checkout!

Green prices are always dirt cheap, but if you factor in the time that it takes you to roast, even at my part-time uni student barista wage, the attraction of home roasting is not saving money! And dont forget that beans lose weight through moisture loss.

        Cheers,

        Luca

          Re: October Beans

Hi, Im really sorry to be such a nuisance with the postage questions. But Ive played around with the checkout and it works very strangely:

          2.5kg of beans = $10 postage
          5kg= $15 postage
          7.5kg= $25
          10kg= $30

Why does it work like this? And also, it might save people a bit of time just to have somewhere on the bean bay that explains how the postage is calculated.

But anyway, theyre super prices, amazing how the beans sell in an instant. Ill recommend this to friends.

          Thanks - Richy

            Re: October Beans

WOW- I was in the middle of a meeting round my computer when I said- "hold on chaps, I just have to purchase some beans! Itll only take a couple of minutes!" They watched, awestruck as I made my way to beanbay at 1 pm exacly and then- the system was sooooo slow I began to get agitated. They began to ask questions like- "Are you sure you have broadband?" And who is this Andy fella anyway- why cant he get it sorted!"
Can you believe that? Obviously they have no idea who this man Andy is and if they did Im sure theyd have the utmost respect for him. They began to get concerned at my agitation as things wouldnt load. Their eyes bulged as the bean quantities were being ripped away like flesh from a strickened animal in the piranah infested waters of the Amazon. Finally it was all over- And I had my fill. The guys quietly went back to the meeting wondering at this strange monthly ritual! ;D
Andy- thanks again- money has been sent- all is well again- for another month.

              Woooohooo...

I was yet another pirrhana chewing at the carcass. Got me some peaberry and some Mountain Top Bundja....

My neighbour described my current home roast as a reasonably good meat and potatoes. I hope I can top meat and potatoes with these beans.

                Re: October Beans

Another excellent effort by all involved. Judging by how long every page took to load, it would appear every CS was buying beans at 1pm! Just checked back and its slim pickings already. Absolutely amazing.

Andy, just out of curiosity, how have the polls grown over time? Im guessing it would be a pretty steep curve!

                Cheers,
                Dom

Well it wont be long before CS has 1500 members at its present rate of growth..... and I think a good portion were online (or trying to get online) at 1.00 today The poor server must have been having a real siezure :-[

Maybe the next poll starts at 3:00 a.m.

Now that would sort out the serious Coffee Snobs ;D

Ill live on coffee for the week ......

BTW how much space would be required to be able to do the pickup??

My first beanbay experience - how exciting watching it all go!
I managed to score some PNG Peabody and the Bali Gunung Batur, so I am very happy and looking forward to having a play.

                      Thanks for the experience.

Now youre scaring me - I was going to suggest the same poll time myself. . .

I reckon getting a Perth distribution point going might not be too hard - I can talk with some people about Freight over here and can probably arrange a central distribution point.

Ill give it some thought over the next week or so for later polls.

Prices aint quoted on the site because it depends on where you are. Sydney gets a pickup point for just $1 per kg, Melbourne has a pickup point for $0 (because I can drive the beans the 70km from home). Melbourne metro CSrs also get a courier option. The rest of the country is covered by the Express post satchels as the fastest way to ensure that the beans arrive in the condition that they left here.

                            Austpost Express Satchel -- max 3kg -- $10
Austpost Express Satchel -- max 5kg -- $15 (subsidised price)

the checkout calulates the cheapest combination of satchels to suit your order so instead of 7.5kg costing 2 x 5kg ($30) it uses one 3kg and one 5kg to get to $25.

                            Make sense?

None of this is in the forum because it moves around... as many others mentioned, the checkout will calculate your shipping costs and give you your options (if available).

                            Easy!

bugger all! Depends on how many CSrs are getting their beans sent to the pickup point. All the bean bags would be labeled so its easy to find who should take home which bags.

Ill start another thread for this discussion soon and prob include a poll to get an idea of who is waiting for such a freight option around the country.

                              A.
