    Re: November BeanBay Coffee

Malabar needs a good lengthy rest after roasting ~8-9 days. Underroasted Malabar does tend to have the aroma of wet cardboard, but dont let that deter you. It colours quite quickly, so try to go by the cracks, not colour.

This one is a crema monster as well, so add this to a blend instead of robusta for a good dose of crema.

Yep, great points, nunu. Hopefully that will help to dispel some myths ... maybe we should move your post to the mythbusting thread!

The wierd thing about the malabar crema, though, is its texture. Gelatinous. Ugh! Great as a blend component in a relatively low percentage, though!

Oh, malabar newbies might want to try taking it "dark" ie. rolling 2nd.

        Cheers,

        Luca

          Re: November BeanBay Coffee

Im looking forward to having it as a SO blend. As a component of a blend, I wouldnt go more than 5-10%

Ive gotten upwards of 12mm of crema from the Malabar. Like Luca said, the crema is very viscous, and Ive found, very strong flavoured.

Ill probably top up on Kenya, and see what other goodies I can get, and probably leaning towards the Panama.

            Hi Andy,

Any idea which of the Fazenda Monte Alegre cofees this is?

            Fully washed,
            Bourbon,
            Pulped natural,
            Peaberry,
            Natural, or
            Espresso blend?

            Cheers,

            FJ

                Re: November BeanBay Coffee

Awesome -- zero hour was busy as always, but I grabbed some Kenyan and some of the Malabar (heres hoping I actually like the stuff!). The cafe day at Maling Room sounds great too, though the timing is hilarious, with my partner and I moving house from the Canterbury area just this week! Its a pretty quick drive from the new place though, so Ill see some of you there

I am happy - got myself some of the Brazil Monte Alegre ... should round out my small collection & keep the practise going.

Thanks again for providing this opportunity.

Wow... the site suffered quite a "thump" too.

Sorry for lag and chunky access times, this was the first BeanBay load test on a new web server and we have identified a couple of performance issues which we will attempt to fix before the next BeanBay.

The site is running ok now, in fact its fairly snappy so the couple of changes we just made to the server are already having an impact.

                        Progress... in the right direction!

Yeah, after the 15 minute mark (into Beanbay time) it really came back to life.

Then completely died for 10 mins ..... my end anyway.

                          Ripping along now :-)

                            Re: November BeanBay Coffee

                            Glad its running better, phew!

The problem was compounding one, and not caused in BeanBay but on the main site. I can only assume most people had a second window open (1 BeanBay and 1 website) and it was the refresh click on the main site that caused the issue.

300+ processes, page file grew by an additional 2Gb and the disks would have been thrashing. Once I changed the process timeouts for the forum the threads dropped-off and the CPU could do what it needed to do to clear the queues.

Remotely configuring a webserver (at the ISP from work) while its getting hammered is top of the "NEVER DO" sys-admin handbook

(but we got away with it this time)

                              Hi Belinda,

New to this site. Noticed youre a fellow brisbanite from previous postings. If you ever get a drop of point happening for Brisbane Id be interested...

Just had my first exprience with the poll. This can get addictive. Couldnt stop talking about beans to my partner this past few days....havnt even attempted a roast yet, but have been reading up on tips.
