    Re: December BeanBay

With a busy weekend, lack of daylight savings, a kids birthday party, I gave this beanbay up for dead... When I got home, a quick log on and all my choices were still there. All too easy. Now I just have to wait for the pickup...

Thanks Andy for an awesome final year selection...

It might be an awesome selection, but remember that next month well still be drinking last years beans ... bwaaahahahaa ... ok, not funny.

Interesting that the Barahona is still left; I would have thought that people would snap that one up straight away.

      Cheers,

      Luca

Boy are you going to cop it from our Tassie members Felix.

Andy ya beat me to the punch!!! Never mind, were not bitter, we are used to being excised from the Mainland in the nationalist consciousness.  >

We console ourselves by having fresh drinkable water in quantity and no potential nuclear power generators being built on our petit island paradise  ;D  ;D  ;D
The failure to include Tasmania was a culpable and difficult-to-explain omission.

As a keen vegetable-gardener (and viewer of the ABCs gardening program), I am acutely conscious of the fact that Tasmania offers gardening delights that Canberra cannot hope to match.

But retribution for this omission was swift.

Owing to other commitments, I did not get to the December auction until 7.20 pm.  _All_ the items, on which I wanted to bid, were "sold out" by then.

        Better luck in 2007!

It is good to know that Canberra is viewed as a future "pick-up" destination.  I am reluctant to offer any tangible assistance towards this goal because of my advanced age (79 years).  I cannot be relied on to be still around, when needed.

        Felix

Re: December BeanBay & express delivery

Many thanks to Andy for some great service here. I ordered Sunday Night when I got back from a hard weekend 4WDing in rough country. Paid via Paypal straight away and had my beans here Tuesday AM. That is some service that many many businesses could learn from.

BTW Andy if you want a pick up point for CBR I am sure that we could use my place as Adele is home all day.

              Re: December BeanBay

Glad to see the early PayPal beans are starting to arrive already.

Thanks for the offer Neil, Im sure other members including Felix and Shamus in our national capital would enjoy getting together once a month (and the cheaper freight too!). We will chat further closer to the next poll.

Most of the bank deposits came though tonight (why those darn banks cannot transfer weekend payments on a Monday still has me stumped).

Im going to take half a day off work to get those ones out tomorrow (Wednesday) and with any luck the last of the weekend transfers appear tomorrow morning too.

                  Re: December BeanBay

Cheers Andy. Glad to hear the money arrived.

There are LOTS of things about banks that have me stumped. Like how they still only open 9.30 to 4, how they charge for EVERYTHING (like $25 for depositing an international check), and how "electronic" transfers arent instantaneous!!

Maybe we can open a bank forum on coffeesnobs, where everyone can send in their gripe stories. Or NOT, because then I might not do anything else all day....except whinge.

                  :-)

I used to work in a bank for almost 20 years.

I really dont want to hear about them. :

                      Re: December BeanBay

My bank, for want of a better term (BS actually, occasionally known as a building society) does ONE electronic payment run per DAY. If you miss it tough. Queue for the next day.

If the system says there is enough money in my account, I should be able to do what I want to do with it NOW. Just goes to show that programmers/IT depts/businesses in large regional cities could do better.

What if someone knew of a bank looking for a process auditor? Hypothetically of course

                            Re: December BeanBay

I have heard (and seen) some good transfer times from Bendigo Bank.

I often tranfer money after 6pm into a Bendigo account from a StGeorge account and it appears the next morning without fail.

So... I can only assume that StGeorge is quick to offer it up and the hold-up is the receiving bank.

I might even open a Bendigo account to see if we can cut that pointless day wait.

As I have often stated, what sh**s me is that the money is gone immediately from my account but takes at least 2 days to show up in yours!

And the banks wonder why they have an image problem.

                                Re: December BeanBay

Yeah - the company I work for is with Bendigo. When they pay me, it arrives the next working day.

If I do a transfer from my Commonwealth account to another Commonwealth account, it is instant. This was not always the case. So its a partial improvement.

Part of the issue is the timings of the clearing houses. I think they are geared to do their transfers to all other banks starting at midnight, but the cutoff for getting in that nights cycle is quite a bit before midnight. Plus, its better for them to have it all on the short term money market making major interest on my payola!

Ah the wonderful world of high finance.
