Re: Next BeanBay - Wednesday June 27th - 9pm AEST
Thats just absolutely PHENOMENAL that alllll those kilos (what 150kg or more) of Yemen and PNG got swallowed up by about 9:02. My family was absolutely gobsmacked hearing that. Has that kind of mass frenzy happened before?

Hmmm... first I have heard of that so I can only guess its a quirk at your end. The logon uses cookies and if your browser (or antivirus/internet security software etc) is doing something "clever" it might give you grief.let you know that I had a bit of trouble logging in last night
I would suggest starting an off topic thread with details on the software you are running and maybe another CSr can offer some ideas on a fix.
Im optimistic that we can reserve some more of the PNG from that same crop for the next BeanBay and should hear from the broker sometime today but we wont see the Yemen again in a hurry.PNG Kinjibi Peaberry

...which is the exact the problem, we dont ever really know what the volume of beans will be.Didnt buy any this time round as I got enough last month to cover my needs for a little while...
I agree we might have to look at that or similar "funnel" to share it around a little. The cocao and tea were very small quantities and were always going to go in a short time. The Yemen and the PNG would have lasted longer if trickle fed and we had large quantities of the others.Limit purchases to 1 x 2.5 kg of each bean (or choc, tea etc) for the first hour, and then let everyone loose on whats left over.
We will look at this idea some more though.

Re: Next BeanBay - Wednesday June 27th - 9pm AEST
I missed out on the PNG as well and as you mentioned above, a lot of the mumblings were about another bean and not the PNG, so this is what I was saying in my previous post. Sometimes the beans that sell the quickest are not always the ones that seem to be the most talked about for that month.Originally posted by KoNG link=1182779392/165#171 date=1182989968Damn i woulda loved some PNG, was a bit weird as the usual chat and mumblings was not really about PNG (moreso the Yemen), so i didnt think it would be a bolter... haha
i was on at 9:00 and refreshing etc etc, but i think it was gone by 9:01 ...
Luckily i was after some ethiopians too.... and then i grabbed some of the Bali because i enjoyed that last time as a good base.
Really do love my PNG though... :-(
Cheers

Im with you KoNG I grabbed other beans and will enjoy them for what they are. and maybe pick up some PBG another time.

Re: Next BeanBay - Wednesday June 27th - 9pm AEST
I think that it is not always apparent what is going to be on high demand. Some months might be predictable, whilst other months particular beans sell a lot faster than they have in previous bean bays.
I think to constantly try to evaluate what is popular for that month is impractical and some times impossible as I believe Andy is still sometimes sourcing beans right up to deaths knock to get the beans available for that months takings and does not have the time to try and source a poll on who wants what.

Andy - thanks for the Beanbay mate. I must admit to forgetting until about 11.00pm or so (absurd I know) and then I jumped on to be pleasantly surprised with a 3 types left. It maybee that as a relatively new roaster I am not keen to get particular types - but to me just getting these sourced greans at the price you provide them for is fantastic.
Good on ya mate.
Cheers

Re: Next BeanBay - Wednesday June 27th - 9pm AEST
Have to admit I was thinking along the same lines as Miles post above.
Especially for the beans that we know there might be a high demand for and/or there are smaller quantities available.
The first hour option maybe bit difficult however but maybe just limiting purchases to 5kgs for the high demand beans might mean more people get a chance.
However I am more than happy with the way it works at present.
Thanks muchly for all your efforts Andy

Re: Next BeanBay - Wednesday June 27th - 9pm AEST
Hi Andy,
Im not complaining but just wanted to let you know that I had a bit of trouble logging in last night. I tried for over an hour (my wrists are a bit sore now, but small price to pay for beans)... anyway, I finally got through by logging on for keeps, I normally do my login for 1 - 3 hours.... Regardless I managed to snag 7.5 kg of beans of different varieties, 2 old favorites and 1 new one.... did miss out on the Indian Darjeeling Tea though, so if theres anyone picking up from Sparkys in Brissy wants to share their haul, I wont say no!!
Again not complaining just wanted to let you know in case there is a gliche you can fix... Im very happy with what I got (beans are beans better some than none!!!)... So many thanks for the hard work and effort you put into this.

Re: Next BeanBay - Wednesday June 27th - 9pm AEST
As the saying goes "You cant please everyone." I think majority would agree that we (The CS community) like the excitement and passion of what our little community provides and are forever grateful of the efforts that Andy and his team do for us each month.
As its been said. Coffeesnobs is not the only place in the world that sells green coffee beans. If you miss out on what you were after for that month then maybe call up one of the Coffeesnob Sponsors who also sell greens, Im sure one of them will be able to help you out with your shortfall. (It may cost a little more than beanbay, but you dont always get everything you buy at supercheap prices as well.)
If this is still not satisfactory then maybe BeanBay might not be right for you. As a whole I think it suits majority of CSers and I think that is all we can ask for from the efforts of Andy and his team.
I say keep up the GOOD WORK GUYS!!!!! We really appreciate your efforts. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Andy - you do not need to apologise. Last night was frantic and everything ran smoothly, I hope you had a few drinks after that madness.
TD, I am sorry you were disapointed but get over it, really. Is it a matter of life and death if you miss out on what you really wanted? Seriously mate, on a scale of one to ten of lifes priorities it isnt on the scale.
FWIW, most of us have missed out on what we really wanted from time to time. Use the opportunity to get something different, I have in the past and got a pleasant surprise.
I just had a look at the bean bay and there is plenty of Bali Gunung and Ethiopian Harar left. Both very good beans. When previously offered they have gone pretty fast.
However - if you are still unhappy with the system, you can always go elsewhere.

Re: Next BeanBay - Wednesday June 27th - 9pm AEST
Andy and all,
First Ill say that I dont have a problem with the way the current bean bay works - I like the challenge of gettin in early. Didnt buy any this time round as I got enough last month to cover my needs for a little while...
Could I suggest an option that may allow more snobs to at least get a sample of beans (it may have been mentioned before):
Limit purchases to 1 x 2.5 kg of each bean (or choc, tea etc) for the first hour, and then let everyone loose on whats left over.
One of the posts above indicates that some snobs are purchasing quite large quotas of particular beans ~ Im not saying there is anything wrong with that...but perhaps allowing more to purchase a smaller sample would help ease the "*^%# I missed out" feeling...
Just a suggestion, as I said, Im happy with how it all works now, but obviously some others are not.
Myles.
