Sheeze, I thought my (long) post (on page 10 of this thread) addressed the shortfall last night.  I dont know how many times I need to publicly repent and apologise and explain why it happened and what I’ll do in an attempt to address it.

If anyone is grumpy about missing-out on something please feel free to email me directly with DETAILS on what you would have wanted, it might help us understand what the shortfall really was.

As for quantity... there is still 60kg of beans in BeanBay 12.5 hours later so I really do think we were pretty close to the mark.

Looking forward, we will attempt to launch the next BeanBay mid month so the delivery dates will be closer to the start of August (as long as the suppliers, brokers and freight companies play too).

    1.    61446  hazchem  9:00
    2.    61447  Sunbeamer  9:00
    3.    61448  LSD  9:01

    Victory is mine! ;D
Boy you must be pretty quick on the mouse, I dont even think I was game to blink for fear of missing out on my favourite Tiger mountain

and to T.D. I think everyone has missed out at some stage so trys to get in early to not miss out, you have to remember like others have said this is pretty much a free service provided by Andy for us, there are plenty of places you can casually buy beans but you pay a lot more, I guess thats the descision, I am a cheapskate so I dont mind being ready ;D

Im sorry but I am a bit frustrated with the way it went last night. I logged in SIX minutes after it opened (by my watch) and half of the stuff was gone. Now, if that doesnt spell out CLEAR excess demand then I dont know what does. I realise more beans = more packaging and PITA for the organisers but it also means more $$$. It appears that a few of the varieties could have handled double or even triple the quantity that was actually offered. And Im sorry, but I also dont see the "sport" in having a mad rush and having to click the "buy" button within 2mins of the thing opening. Last I checked it wasnt about playing the "whos fastest" game, it was about making good coffee. If I missed out on what I wanted after logging in an hour or two late, then so be it, but I find it a bit hard to cop the same thing when logging in only 6 minites after 9pm! Im sorry for being grumpy but seriously there is some major mis-matching of supply and demand here, and by better matching it everybody benefits, so why doesnt it happen???
Ill chime in here TD...The issue with double or triple of some of the origins offered is that it often simply doesnt exist. We frequently get access to really special stuff there may only be one or two bags of. So far, Ive been lucky. Last night I missed out on a couple of things I had in mind, but cest la vie as they say. If youre looking for something, why not ask the question? You may well find somebody who is prepared to split their stash with with you...

CS will no doubt evolve as we grow and Im wrapt that we get good stuff, at great prices and make a small contribution to those in need as well. Imagine a world without CS which is precisely where wed be if Andy hadnt become the driving force. :-?

So thanks Andy for your vision, and to those who missed out this time, watch this space

I might be wrong here but I think you may have missed the point where you say $s.
Apart from the fair crack donation the costs only are recovered and a no profit balance sheet, with the upfront capital coming from Andys pocket, which obviously takes days if not weeks to recover.
Based on the 900kgs last night at say $10/kg thats $9K upfront.
Would you be prepared to cough up $9K on a monthly basis for a hobby?

    Hey all,
I wasnt home till after 9:30, so about 9:45 I was on, using dial up speed, and no problems, very smooth.
Seems like it works much better now by the numbers of people that got in and out so quick.

Good on ya Andy, another step forward for CS.

BeanBay and CoffeeSnobs is a lot of fun for all of us.  We all have a hobby and a passion that we can share, learn and improve together in the magic of cyberspace.

Sometimes little groups of us get together face to face and after the initial “you don’t look like I imagined” reaction we all have a common discussion topic… COFFEE.

Fatboy said at one of the early CS get-togethers something to the effect of “I love these meetings, I can ramble-on about coffee all day and people don’t try and back away from me with eyes glazed-over”

I’m sure we can all understand that sentiment and have many friends and family that are now too scared to offer us a coffee when we drop-in.

From my personal perspective it is a huge amount of work, time and outlay but I also benefit by getting great coffee for myself and access to great beans for the Snobbery.  Heck, with a “CS Brown sales force” the size of our  CS  membership my hobby roastery might even pay the bills one day so I’m more than happy to keep shoveling green beans.

CoffeeSnobs is a very positive experience for most people and I always feel disappointed when I read that someone “missed out”.  We don’t do it on purpose and we constantly chop ‘n change each month to try and get the right balance of volume and outlay.  On the whole we are close to right (even if it doesn’t feel that way to those that missed out).

I intentionally bought double the amount of decaf this month because it cupped so good (for a decaf anyway!) but I honestly expected that we would carry half of it over to next month at least.  I was wrong.  The demand was higher than anticipated and with any luck we can get some more soon.

The PNG really flew.  We didn’t have any indication that it was going to go so fast and I have already emailed the broker requesting some more of this lot for the next BeanBay (if they have any left).

The tea was a gamble really.  We knew it was an awesome quality tea and a fraction of the street price but sometimes at the end of BeanBay I have a pile of tea to store or give away.  It looked like we could have offered twice the amount of this but sadly it was the only carton available of this grade.

Most of the other beans sold fast but we still had fair quantities available after the initial dust cloud settled.

Rest assured that we will continue to tweak the volume to minimise the “I missed out posts” but to be fair, I think we are pretty close to the mark.  There is still 80kg of excellent quality beans available and (in fact those two blend REALLY nicely together) and I’m sure who ever buys them won’t feel that they missed-out.

Hi Andy, grabbed a Yemen Oops.  Thanks for all of your effort in keeping the coffee flowing.  Record number of CSers and it looked like BeanBay barely broke a sweat, well done geekrocket.
    Three cheers for Geekrocket!

Yes Gavinc, Geekrocket has done a fantastic job on BeanBay V2.0.

Although if we were running the old version the beans would have lasted for a few days while people sat and looked at blank screens and error messages.

I cannot imagine trying to do this without excellent software (frontend and backend) to keep track of the orders, payments, shipping etc etc.  In fact the original version of CoffeeSnobs using the YABB poll method fell into a hair-pulling-screaming-heap at about 240kg.

Tonight we chewed through 940kg of beans and 20kg of tea and although most of us got some fantastic beans the feelgood highlight over the evening is that FairCrack managed to raise a massive $510.00

A great effort from our little corner of the Internet that we fondly call "CoffeeSnobs"

    Most of all... Enjoy!

    ATTN YEMEN BUYERS

We had a rather large oops in the pricing on the Yemen beans in this BeanBay.
$22.50/kg should have translated to $56.25 for 2.5kg

I wasn’t sure how best to fix it when a clever CS’r (gavinc) suggested that we post an item with zero shipping and a value of $33.75.

    So we have!

    http://beanbay.coffeesnobs.com.au/ViewProduct.aspx?ID=139

Please purchase one of these to square the invoice.

If you overbought or no longer want (some or all of) the Yemen in your order then please let me know via email and I’ll sort it out.

    Sorry for the trouble.

    Andy.

    :-[

For those that already found and paid for the Yemen Oops, thanks!

    8-)

    Hello Andy,
Managed to get 12.5kg Yemen but was only charged 22.50 per 2.5kg, how much extra do I need to pay? Just a bit confused!!!
    Steven (poddy66)
As the basic unit of order was 2.5kg and as the Yemen Oops is based on that quantity youd have to order 5 units of the Yemen Oops in the Bean Bay/Other Stuff/Yemen Oops.
