Gee thats nice -- the haves (people with stashes) lecturing the maybe have-nots (people down to their last 500g)?

Or is it only idiots like me that let their green stocks run down before thinking about getting more? Wont happen again, I promise.

I have missed beanbay in the past and last night forgot (like Remy, caught up in something else).

Its all wasted energy on something that is not that important compared to say cancer or wondering where the next meal is coming from.

Sometimes these things need to be put into perspective.
Too true, got to say though that being a pick up point and having the big box arrive without me even realizing there was a bean bay was a bit of a bummer. Though the comforting thought of 60+ kilos in the stash makes it more bearable.

As a change of topic, whats with the robusta? Is this mainly for blending, or is it good in its own right?
Simone> you blend it. Robustas are much higher in caffeine content (almost double) so you generally wouldnt have it straight... well, I dont anyway else Id be buzzing for the next week

Having said that, my reading on this bean indicates the Monsoon Malabar Robusta is a high quality robusta and should add some depth and richer crema to your blend so I didnt hold back from adding it to my stash! :

hi, sorry about the swearing.... I was annoyed with myself for not logging on earlier. I still have beans left from my starter pack, I should be right till the next sale.

If you still have beans left from the starter pack and theyll last until the next BeanBay you arent drinking enough coffee.

Re: CoffeeSnobs News and GREEN BeanBay - 17th June

Just got my beans from my first beanbay. I was really excited to get it open, then finding I had some extra beans as my postage cost was cheaper - excellent!

I was surprised by the Indian Monsoon Malabar - the quantity looked like about twice as much as the other bags, but was the same weigtht. Interesting colour also. Cant wait to try some of these out.

Thats the impact of the monsooning process on the beans Damian - the added moisture, it seems, puffs them up but doesnt seem to add proportionally to the weight (kind of like a bag of cotton wool - looks like a lot in volume, but light as a feather weight-wise).

Incidentally, scan the forum for roasting tips with the Malabar  , as it is quite particular.  Slow, easy temp ramp to FC, & it naturally roasts light so be careful not to take it into SC too far.  Also needs resting 10-14 days post-roast to get optimal flavours.

                      Cheers,
                      Tony

                              Gday Damian,

Heres an article which describes the Monsooning Process and despite a few odd phrases, is quite interesting nevertheless....

                              Cheers mate,
                              Mal.
