Andy, thanks for the beanbay notice. Unfortunately Im usually either in meetings, on the road or otherwise busy in the daytime so I hope this wont become the normal time.

I dont mind missing the occasional beanbay for the sake of those who cant get to a computer at night, but overall, Id have thought that those who are busy during the day would far outnumber them by a long shot.

Good idea with the daytime Beanbay! I can just imagine a Melbourne Cup Style "race that stops the nation" :P

Thanks for the notes too Andy - really helpful!

    Melbourne pickup
Next weekend is the cupping champs, the following is grand final day, the one after that is 4th Oct and Ill be at William Angliss so you can pickup in the morning from outside there (if you can wait that long for beans) or just use the courier option in BeanBay.

    Queensland Pickup
Gilkatho are starting some renovations so the pickup point has been moved to the new Veneziano First Pour at West End.

    BeanBay GREEN - 14:00 Tuesday 16th Sept 2008

    GREEN BeanBay AFTERNOON

    TUESDAY 16th September
    2pm AEST

    =======================

We have had quite a few requests for a daytime BeanBay from those that only have access to a computer at work so this month we will kick it off at 14:00 TUESDAY AFTERNOON 16th September.

    On offer will be:

    Ethiopian Limmu Organic
    Nicaragua Ramacafe Fine Estate RFA
    Panama Boquete Bajo Volcancito
    PNG Jiwaka Peaberry
    Sumatra Mandheling Takengon Organic
    DECAF - Mocha Java

And a small amount of the following for those that missed-out on them last month:

    Brazil Ipanema Reserva Especial
Democratic Republic of the Congo - Matadi
    Indian Tiger Mountain A
Peru - Organic Grace Villa Estate

More details and discussions can be found below:

    Ethiopian Limmu Organic $9.00/kg
Ethiopian Limmu certified organic at origin this is a 2008 crop that arrived last week (not the end of last years crop) and the good news is that its just a good as we remember.  Washed and well graded makes this one of the easiest Ethiopian coffees to roast and it works well through a wide range of roast depths (CS8-10).  If you enjoy it bright and lively try just after CS8 and if you want sweetness and cocoa push it towards CS10.

Nicaragua Ramacafe Fine Estate RFA $9.00/kg
Nicaragua Ramacafe Fine Estate is Rain Forest Alliance (RFA) and UTZ certified.  In the cup at  CS9 I found a sweet soy milk nuttiness in the aftertaste that was both enjoyable and quite unique.  These are very well graded beans and roast even and easily.

    Panama Boquete Bajo Volcancito $10.00/kg
Panama Boquete Bajo Volcancito is a high grown, strictly hard bean (SHB) from the Bajo Volcancito plantation. Clean, well graded and produces a great balance of sweetness and acidity with a smooth body at a CS9 roast depth.  Fans of Central American beans should love this one.

    DECAF - Mocha Java $13.00/kg
We roast this decaf at the Snobbery and noticed that the current batch is has a slightly lighter overall colour which makes roasting it easier.  As a rule, the water processed decaf can be trick to roast as you cannot use roast colour as a good indicator, so we still recommend stopping just shy of second crack for best results.

    PNG Jiwaka Peaberry $9.50/kg
PNG Jiwaka Peaberry.  Ive had numerous discussions previously about finding huge maragogype beans in with peaberry beans and I still dont know why it happens but there are plenty in this origin too.  Roasted to CS9 it produces an enticing aroma off the grinder and retains the sharp PNG acidity that you expect in the cup.  From the Western Highlands of the Wahgi valley this is the first time that we have seen a Jiwaka bean but I do hope it becomes a regular visitor to Oz.

    Sumatra Mandheling Takengon Organic $9.50/kg
Sumatra Mandheling Takengon certified organic at origin and one of the ugliest Mandheling samples I have roasted for a long time.  Lots of broken and chipped beans but in the cup just shy of CS10 its big, bold, earthy and chocolaty with a great body.
