My grey-hair-induced-stress comes from watching how fast they go.... and how some dont go fast enough.

We can never get it perfect but we do the best we can and we know that what gets offered is "all good".

      Enjoy!

Just out of curiousity...is there a cap on how many kgs a member can purchase of a particular bean? I cant help but think that 2 minutes for all of the Sumatran to go is very quick  :-? Does the beanbay server get really hammered (sorry obviously from reading above it does    ), do some members buy very large qtys of a single origin? (or both...). New to all of this.

          New member here.

Have to say what an absolutely great site/forum. Its really sent my interest in coffee to another level. I searched far and wide for green beans to try out what home roasted beans were like, and eventually picked some up at Preston. The experiment with the popper worked, the first one and a half kilo roasted and consumed in quick fashion, and now came my time to buy a decent amount of green beans and at a great price too.

Thanks to Andy for the site.

I look forward to my delivery of the starter pack, and a lot of both mexican and El Salvadore beans.

          Cheers

          Greg

Welcome aboard Greg, as you found home roasting is fun and the results can be amazing. Have fun in our little community of 6,500!

Buschy (and other with queries about stock selling out)
Im sure your mothers said on at least one occasion "just be happy with what you got".
            ;-)

What we have we have, sometimes we buy all the available from the broker (some varieties are only 3 or 4 bags) sometimes we just buy a few. If you missout you were too slow!

Far better than a winge (even subtle ones) on the forum is a post in the "Wising Well" for next time. (I tried to ignore them in the hope that CSrs would stop doing it.)

If there are enough people interested in something that sold out fast we will contact whichever bean broker it came from and see if we can source some more. If you are the only one that wanted more then you will need to want most of a 60kg bag of it else I would have want the other 57kg.

As it happens I asked the Indo broker last week if he could get some more of this one... I dont know the answer yet.

So post in the wishing well or send me an email (not a PM) and we well see how much interest there is!

Cheers Andy. Thanks for taking the time to explain. VERY happy with what I ended up with. . I actually couldnt decide between the Sumatran and the Mexican (both sounded great), it was 50/50 so ending up with either is a real windfall. Just couldnt believe how fast the first one went! I will be less tardy next time...

For what its worth I have a theory on why the Lintong went so quick - assuming others think like me!

A number of beans in the bean bay were from a similar region i.e. Central American, so I chose a couple from there and then looked for something from another region - the Lintong offered something different - a big bold body bean and therefore it was an obvious choice to ensure the cupboard has a good variety of stock on hand!

                    - either that or its just a great bean!! yum :P

Our computer was shaped to 56k so I missed out on the Sumatran but managed to get the Mexican which was my second choice so Im happy, got 500g of the China Pearl tea for my daughter so shes also very happy!!
                      Great selection as usual Andy......................

Looks like I was the lucky few who got hold of the Sumatran Blue Lintong, Just wondering whether its the same as the Blue Batak? As far as I know the Batak people is from Lintong.

And I am going to use this one as an Espresso base for my MILK blend, the usual Brazilian base is getting a bit too boring for the Palate.

Completely forgot Bean Bay last night.   I know, I know - sorry. It hasnt happened before and I promise it wont happen again.

But wandered into Bean Bay this morning and still plenty of beans (as well as the Darjeeling tea) to pick from. So, whilst I dont exactly need more beans, I had a leisurely stroll through what was still available and put an order in.

I love this new Bean Bay format - very civilised! Thanks Andy.

Oh, and I see we have another Greg on the books. Brilliant!  ;D

For the first time in my CS life I was on standby from 8:55pm to get ready for the 9:00pm start. Refreshed it a couple of times at 8:59pm but no change. At the turn of the hour, when I refreshed it, it was a long delay to get the page opened despite having broadband! The ones I was eyeing were the 2 Africans, Ugandan and the Sidamo. When I was at the main page, there were 100+ kg of Ugandans. When I clicked on it to get into ordering it 3 seconds later, it was down to 50kg or so! I placed the order pretty much immediately and when I was done, it was down to 20+kg.
Second to go was the Lintong. I was a bit surprised about the popularity of the Lintong and the seemingly lack of interest in the Sidamo. I thought the 2 africans would be the first to disappear. Anyway, I got what I wanted and was seriously tempted to get more but lack of storage space saw me only ordering the 2 Africans.

I was on @ 9pm to grab some. Similar story.
First few clicks after the starting bell took some time.
I was specifically after 3 beans due to my own tastes and someone whom I roast beans for.
I grabbed the Sumatran, Ugandan and Brazil in that order.
There was still some of each when I finished, but the Sumatran and Ugandan did appear to go pretty fast.

As Andy says, its hard to predict which one(s) will be the movers of the month, but still, its a great choice we get each time.

And there always seems to be something left even if you miss the frenzy.

                                Brett.
