Re: BeanBay Monthly Sale - Tues 7th April 2009
Just throwing in my 2 cents worth about Vietnam coffee (although this thread is getting a bit off topic).
In April I spent 3 weeks in Cambodia and Vietnam. Couldnt find a good coffee anywhere. Each town or city we stayed in I generally tried again, but by the end I had to get used to starting my day without a coffee fix. I had reached my limit for stale filtered coffee.
Hopefully youll have a bit more luck Wired, either way itll be a good excape from Winter for you!

Well just remember there are no cows in Vietnam, so its long life or condensed milk. If you can find a decent coffee , please let us know for next time.
They like flavoured coffee, vanilla, caramel, everything but normal coffee. We stayed in a hotel run by an Australian in Sapa, who had a real italian coffee machine and imported coffee, basically they can not make a coffee to save themselves :-[ . At Saigon International airport they have an illy bar - $US6 for coloured hot water.
If you are expecting coffee like we have here you will be disappointed, we just had tea (liptons teabags) instead, which is what you get as normal western tea.
However, the fruit juices are to die for, especially passionfruit or mango ones, and for food in Hanoi - Quan An Ngon (Vietnamese) or Green Tangerine (French)
Enjoy 8-)

Im surprised to hear that given they are one of the biggest coffee growing countries in the world with 775,000 metric tonnes of robusta expected to be exported this year. I take it you are referring to espresso coffee shops?Originally posted by 55575050535F5853504453575D360 link=1239023412/108#108 date=1240453976Andy we couldnt find a decent coffee shop in Nam, tried the drip coffee, that was ok, certainly an acquired taste. They love condensed milk, sugar and ice, we werent so keen, :-/ so gave up and drank 333 and Bia instead!
Ill be predominantly in the north for over a month from June so I hope to find a suitable caffeine fix.
