    Another nice line up Andy.

Were really enjoying the China Pearl at home and the customers love the PNG, Darjeeling, Chai, and Red African. Consider myself and our customers to be very fortunate to have so many CoffeeSnobs products on the shelves.

Certainly agree with that. Another great opportunity to celebrate being a CSer.

Sulawesi Tana Torajah Kalosi - This is a grade one Torajah
There was a Torajah in the February BB (Sulawesi Rante Kapua Torajah). Would this be significantly different? I googled Torajah and found Toraja refers to the highland people of Sulawesi so I guess the answer is yes, it might well be different (or not  :-/)

When everyone has made their purchases tonight (or even before) you might also consider participating in this months Bean Club

Yep. Coffee changes across the same farm, region, country. The single biggest difference is often the processing between lots. The Rante Kapua Torajah from earlier in the year was a traditional washed coffee (unusual for the region) and the Tana Torajah Kalosi this month is a wet hulled (more usual). The grading of this is also different. In the roaster this produces far more chaff, in the cup this one is earthier and has more body.
Ignore the names, try the coffee blind and use your senses to see just how different two coffees from close proximity can be (works for me!)

Dont always trust google for coffee research... I expect google will tell you "Blue Mountain" is west of Sydney not a coffee area in Jamaica

The biggest gotcha with google for coffee research is that the producers of coffee are not the ones posting content, mostly its a broker or a middleman who has "best guessed" the verbal to written translation. Well that and the fact that anglo text on the bags is randomly spelt makes it very hard to hope that a word search will return the right answer.

Tana Torajah or Toraja or Torrajah (I have seen all on bags) is the area, Kalosi or Kallosi or Kalossi is the town.

We have even had spelling change from the same estate but different crop years.

This isnt unique to coffee growing areas either. The latte championships were in Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland or Deutschland for short) the town was Cologne (or Koln or Köln or Kölner or Kolner or even Kölen and Kolen)

        Confused?
I think Ill stop typing now.
        8-)

Not at all. Thanks for that. Clear as .....a blank shot?!! :-?

I agree that the name doesnt matter or indicate what to expect just because it shares a name with other beans from a region.

Theres been a few discussions about Aricha and even Beloya but I found out that Yirgacheffe is the central point to these places and I wondered if a bean labeled as Yirgacheffe could actually come from these places - but I told myself that was unlikely. But given my experience of Yirg beans and the reports on the Aricha beans, there must be something wonderful about that part of the world to produce such extraordinary coffee.

            Gday,

First post to CS, very recent member so hello to all.

Further to Andys post, just like to add that Tana Torajah (spelling varies) definitely exists (as a region) as I had the great fortune to work there a few years back. It is an amazing place, breathtakingly beautiful with very friendly local folks. Ironically, I struggled to get a good cup of coffee there but did secure some mighty fine beans.

            cheers,
            Andrew

Welcome Andrewski and thanks for the clarification. The link in my earlier post does indeed state The Toraja are an ethnic group indigenous to a mountainous region of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Their population is approximately 650,000, of which 450,000 still live in the regency of Tana Toraja ("Land of Toraja")

Also linked to from the same webpage is this Wikipedia page with the usual caveat about not taking what you read on the web as gospel

That has been months in the making, most of the upgrade was back-end and GLADLY it all worked as tested.

                              Well done Geekrocket.
