is this only for the 4 new offerings? Or am I able to purchase other beans
As Greg said... anything you buy in the BeanBay pages during these few days each month can be freighted to a pickup point for $1.50/kg.  BeanBay will always show the all the freight options available at the time of ordering.

comfortable spending $30+ per kilo while Im such a novice at roasting
Keep in mind that there are plenty of bad coffees in a supermarket for $30/kg, the difference here is the for similar money you can purchase the best of the Nicaraguan coffee competitions.

    Turkish coffee blend
Most commercial Turkish coffee uses Brazil Santos, we havnt seen a good sample of Santos for a few years but it should be easy to find in lower grades.

Will the La Bendicion be sold in 1kg bags or will it still be the usual 2.5kg?
2.5kg as per the first post...

All beans are packed in 2.5kg cotton bags which are perfect for storing your beans in.
...and I should mention that if anyone buys 15kg (of the Cup of Excellence) it will come as a single big vacuum sealed brick (if they want it in original packaging).

I can vouch for the Nepalese coffee.... not only exclusive but if its anything like the Nepalese coffee i bought around this time last year it will be a winner. It is some of the highest grown coffee in the world. Due to snow on the mountain top, it can not physically be grown any higher.
I could not wait for it to degas properly but still found very full mouth feel and rich as an espresso.

A very nice selection this month and its almost time i purchased again. My cupboard is getting a bit of space in it

I will try the Cuban for sure. I am looking for a bean with a smoky finish. I am putting a Turkish coffee blend together. Any ideas? So far I found only the Yemeny beans to come close to what I need.

Andy, I bought the starter pack off you last month and so far so good. My first attempts at roasting have been reasonably successful, to the point I almost need a new batch of green beans!

In regards to the BeanBay sales/drop off points etc, is this only for the 4 new offerings? Or am I able to purchase other beans as shown on your BeanBay thread. Im not completely comfortable spending $30+ per kilo while Im such a novice at roasting.

    Cheers.

Phew, I have no doubt that all of Andys offerings are exemplary but there is nothing there that actually jumps out and says "you must have some of me"..........So I may be able to resist temptation : and sit out this BB. My storage cabinet is maxed out :-[ and the racks are straining.........maybe I need to build a larger cabinet

    Definitely a larger cabinet Steve

Yeah, I want to know which world judge found "banana" in his cup because after 43 years and thousands of coffees I have never found banana in anything except a banana

Its great coffee but just dont be surprised if you cannot find all those fruits.

The last Cuban beans I had were just great ..were lucky the Yanks arent allowed to buy any!
You are right, such a small origin and so close to the USA I have no doubt they could consume the whole lot given half a chance.

We will have similar problems as a more westernised China starts to buy whole origins in the future too.

Enjoy the variety and the price while you can!

    Thanks Andy,

Got the email this time, been checking everyday online to make sure.

Will get in and see what I can grab.

Been putting together a KKTO over the last week and I can see one big floor in my plans - 600gm at a go, Ill eat through my supplies in no time and thats just getting it broken in / tested.

BTW "10/10/10 10:10:10" would of been worth the late start.

    Some additional "housework" notes...

Please check the kick-off times above.  Daylight savings makes for some weird times around the country.

Speaking of time, I nearly made the sale kick off at 10 past 10pm so we had 10/10/10 10:10:10 for the date and time. I look forward to Remembrance Day next year!

Pickup Point freight is now $1.50/kg to help cover the last few freight price rises and bring it closer to actual cost.

Vic pickup is at Venziano this month.

PLEASE pay when you order.  It makes everything run smoothy. Life is way too short/busy to waste it chasing payments.

Im not roasting on the 13th Oct so get your roasted orders in before the 10th or it will be roasted on Sunday 17th.

    BeanBay GREEN sale - 10th Oct 2010

    coffeesnobs.com.au
    Monthly BeanBay GREEN Bean Sale

    Sunday 10th October
    8pm AEDT (Daylight Savings)

    7pm QLD
    8pm ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS
    7.30pm SA
    6.30pm NT
    5pm WA

The beans available at the above date/times will be:

Cup Of Excellence Nicaragua 2010 - La Bendicion $39.50/kg*
Misael Saucedo Olivera has been growing coffee on this farm for 18 years. The varietal is a Maragogype (think as big as peanuts) and it was washed and sun dried. The Cup of Excellence judges scored this 87.19 and their Flavour/Aroma descriptors were: green apple, red berry, toast, apricot, peach, banana, black cherry, chocolate, leather, blueberry. Acidity: lively, crispy, bright, balanced. Other: rich body, walnut, hazelnut, long aftertaste. You may not find the same fruit salad in the cup but this is still one of the finest Nicaraguan coffees this season.

    El Salvador Chaparrastique $9.50/kg*
This washed, high grown and organic El Salvador coffee was easy to roast and very well graded. In the espresso cup it produced a very sweet, syrupy pour that had a mouth feel like cream at a CS9 roast depth. I tried taking it darker too and while it was drinkable the body and sweetness faded quickly. Stick to lighter (CS8-9) roasts for best results.

    Nepal Plantec Estate $24.50/kg*
This is the first Nepalese coffee that I have ever tried. The Plantec Estate is 700 meters above sea level on the Trisuli River at the base of the Ganesh Himal mountain range and they claim to the worlds most northern coffee plantation. This was certified organic at origin by USDA and is a Caturra Varietal. In the cup its a mid bodied with a great grind aroma that I would compare to Yirgacheffe in style (but not in looks). Interesting, exotic and expensive thanks to the fact its air freighted out of Nepal.

    Cuba Turquino $13/kg*
The last time we had the Cuba Turquino I made tasting notes that said "initially very sweet with a good body and then a long dry nearly peppery aftertaste similar to the tannins in strong black tea" and I agree with those thoughts on this crop too. Its an interesting coffee that might be sweeter this time but still has the unique drying, peppery linger in the finish.

    * Prices include a $0.50/kg FairCrack donation. All beans are packed in 2.5kg cotton bags which are perfect for storing your beans in.

    Pickup Points

QLD - Veneziano - West End
NSW - Coffee Parts – Pagewood
    NSW - Cuppacoffee - Sylvania

    TAS - "ParaM" – Hobart
SA - The Coffee Barun - Sefton Park
    WA - "Caffeinefreak" – Wembley
    VIC - Veneziano - Abbotsford --- (23/10/2010 10.30-11.30)

We hope to get beans to the pickup points by: 23/10/2010

This delivery date is a best guess as we are often at the whim of couriers around the country. Generally when the beans arrive at the pickup point someone will post in this thread to let you know the time/date that you should meet for the pickup.

Feel free to discuss pickup point pickups and plan the social get togethers (eg: who is bringing cake) in this thread.
