Q: Is beanbay meant to be open for green sales? Last time I used it the quantities became available after the opening time. Im guessing now theyre always there, save for the selected quantities released for the traditional monthly beanbay.
Yep, we buy much more coffee at a time now that we have space at the new Snobbery so we can carry stock af beans all year round.

Each month the new arrivals are released (mid month-ish) via a BeanBay-Green sale. Some will be limited and will runout on the night, others will be there for people to buy over the coming few weeks.

The monthly BeanBay-Green sale still makes sense as its hte only way to everyone a crack at the new arrivals at the same time.

    Enjoy!

You can get generic monoon coffees from all the standard commercial brokers all year round but instead we wait for the direct shipment to get the "good stuff" that doesnt smell like dirty socks
      8-)
Isnt the dirty socks "aroma" what we like about the monsooned malabars?

        ;D

Well there is earthy and then there is musty.

Earthy, dry, spicy is good, musty just smells like mold.

                Hi Rocky,
Have a look after 5pm today (Sunday) in Beanbay and make your purchase. Select "Beanbay Pickup" if you want to be a part of our social gathering at Caffeinefreaks place. He will then post an announcement of the date of pick up. Please keep an eye on this thread often. Apart from taking advantage of the cheaper rate of postage per kilo of beans, you get the chance to see what a motley friendly crew of CSers we are
Otherwise you can purchase anytime on Beanbay what you want and expect a swift delivery to your doorstep.

                Gary

There are only so many things that fit into a 20 hour day... the email will be sent in the next hour
Thank you Andy, I did get it.

Just a little unusual that I saw it on here first without the regular email saying it was happening.

And you know we appreciate all that you do for us.

Sure. Its a balance of timing that I dont always get as close together as I like.

We need the post here first so the tweet and the email have something to point to.

I then tweet, then do the email. Depending on timing, I try and send the email overnight to save some load on the server as we are sending nearly 13000 emails now which is enough to make us look like spammers to some internet hosts!

As a rule I tend to do the post, the tweet and the emails all after midnight when most "normal" people are in bed. This time I thought I would get the first two out early so I could go to bed at a reasonable time (which didnt happen) so I think next time Ill just revert to doing the whole thing at silly o clock.

...at least it "appears" that they all happened together that way.
                      8-)

Oh, and I expect to see some decaf orders from the two people that promptly replied to my 3am email.

For the difference in price for postage, I might offer to be a pickup point (or at least a delivery point and then work out the best pick up point for everyone, since I travel between Newcastle and Wyong almost every day) for Newcastle/Central Coast

Mmm I think I need to change my hair colour, once I put in all my products to buy it came up with much better options, Andy I love how youve done the shipping on the website

                          Thanks!

Credit goes to our favourite code-monkey "Geekrocket" who managed to get the website to understand all the different combinations of freight. He can do amazing work if you can get him into the "cage" for a day or two... Wild code-monkeys can be really hard to catch!

The system works out the options and pricing depending on where you are and how much you are freighting. All our freight is slightly cheaper than the actual cost so (in effect, site sponsor subsidised) and the back-end is really complicated.

AustPost satchels are fairly straight forward, $10 for a 3kg satchel and $15 for a 5kg satchel anywhere in Oz but the different courier and e-parcel options change depending on where you are and the total weight of your order. At the checkout of BeanBay you will always see all the shipping options available at the best price possible, you can then determine the speed vs price that suits.

My end of the freight system also exports all the address information into the different courier software packages to print the labels. Its all a work of art.

While talking about freight, this would be a good time to mention something...

If you put your address as:

                          Mr Smith
                          12 Some Street
                          North Sydney
                          Sydney
                          2600

The courier software will see "Sydney" as the town and change the postcode to 2000. You wont get your beans delivered!

If you live in North Sydney then your address is:

                          Mr Smith
                          12 Some Street
                          North Sydney
                          2600

We get the same sort of wrong addresses all over the country, if you live in Prahan you live in Prahan... not Prahan, Melbourne.

We get 5 of these a week, some I notice when we print the labels and I then have to reprint a manual label but some I wont know about and at best it will take a few extra days for you to get your delivery, as worst it will be returned to me.

PLEASE EVERYONE... save me some time, grief and money and check your address is correct in BeanBay before you place an order.

                          Ta.

Just checking I understand the proecess as Im also a newbie.
If I order for Melbourne pickup, I presumably have to get to Veneziano on the morning of Saturday 27th?

As I work Saturdays, Im guessing pickup isnt an option and Id have to pay for Express post satchel. Correct?

Are Melb pickups always on Saturday?

You can always come for a coffee and a chat anyway. We always have a few CSrs that freight their beans and then come to the pickup for the social stuff.

                                Ah, good to know, Andy.
I imagine itd be quite an experience to spend an hour or two with so many other coffee obsessives.

For those of us in Melbourne, the courier option is always the most cost effective.
If fact, its ridiculously cheap even if youre shipping only a couple of kilos of beans and almost literally unbelievable if youre shipping a decent amount (as low as 35c a kilo).

As Andy has said before, he subsidises the shipping which is how he manages to make it so damn cheap for us lucky CSers.
