Payment method can make a difference.

Order Tuesday and pay EFT the bank wont put the payment into our account till Thursday and the coffee ships that day. We had plenty of people in QLD and WA get it Friday.

Order Tuesday and pay PayPal and we get it instantly, ship it Wednesday and often it will arrive Thursday, Friday at worst.

    She used:
StarTrack Express - Satchels (next day)

    You used:
Star Track Express - Road (2-3 days)

Both of you got exactly the service you paid for!

Its not very fair on the couriers to bag their service when they did deliver on time. If you want to go someone go the bank who held onto your money for 36 hours... they are a bigger lag inducer than anyone else in the chain.

Freight is always a juggle between speed and price. As a rule the cheaper freight gets driven around the country, the more expensive gets flown.

If you order Tuesday night, pay by PayPal (incurs fees) select a next day delivery option (cost more) you will get your beans faster. If you EFT (less fees) select road freight you will save some money (maybe quite a bit of money) but your order will get there later. We like to put the choice in your hands so you can weigh-up the value to you.

A problem I see with the monthly BBS being on a Tuesday
We move the day of the week that BeanBay is on around because I get nagged "I have basket weaving classes on Monday", "I do yoga on Sunday", "I do afternoon shift on Wednesday"... and while you cannot keep everyone happy we do try and shuffle it around to help those that have commitments on certain days.

I probably shouldnt be sprouting off what a good deal it is in case Andy gets to thinkin too much... hehehe
I know how good a deal it is because I pay the courier invoices and also know how much we subsidise the freight costs... more so into Perth and Tassie.

If you want your coffee delivered post haste, I suggest you order on the Monday after BB, use Express Post and pay by PayPal.

I can’t complain about my coffee hanging around on the way.

I put in my order on Monday at 7.30 am.

Andy shipped it by 9.30 and it landed on my Sydney doorstep just after 4 pm Tuesday.

I’m about to roast some of the Sulawesi Toarco Jaya. Yum.

    Barry

The rest of us BeanBay tragics have been bitten by the roasting bug and probably cut their teeth on poppers.
Just to reiterate how easy it is, I did I think three roasts in my popper before deciding it was so easy I wanted to roast more, and upgrading to Behmor. You can get away with wasting a bit because the price is SO much cheaper than brown beans. That said though, youll get it right very quickly

A problem I see with the monthly BBS being on a Tuesday is; as in my case, shipped Thursday, received in Maitland Monday.  :-? Thats a 7 day turn around from order/payment because the weekend becomes involved.
Shapeshifter in Newcastle says he she has a day after shipment delivery. Hmm, Maitland is only 30min west, so it seems my beans had an extra three nights accommodation in the courier van. It seems it wasnt 4 star standard as there was a largish hole torn in the satchel!
It might sound as if I am complaining, not so, just a declaration of courier time/reliability with the later in the week shipments.
    Que sera, sera.  :
    More roasting, more coffee, more....

OK, now youve done it     SShhh!!     ;D

    In my case, its different.
It costs me more to go and do the Beanbay pick-up as i live in Gosnells, takes me 30 minutes there, and 30 minutes back. So say 10 bucks (and thats a modest guesstimate for a Mitsu. Magna) for petrol and factor in costs of maintenance, depreciation, insurance etc plus the cost of making special cookies to feed the mob.

But im happy to bear that because i enjoy the coffee culture and sharing tips, advice and peoples experiences. And not just coffee, also in the case of our last pick up, advice on house renovations and stories of rip offs.

To save money on a bean bay pick up based on $1.20 a kilo, living within 10 minutes would help, plus ordering bulk amounts which would increase the savings.

    Hi Koti

    Heres the go:
    (1) Go to your local electrical or department store and buy a popcorn popper. You could pick one up for the $20 - $30 mark or even less
    (2) Read here: http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1174699442 and get yourself started.
    (3) Enjoy.

The rest of us BeanBay tragics have been bitten by the roasting bug and probably cut their teeth on poppers. Go and do it and dont be scared of mistakes - learn from them. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif] All you need to do is make a start. Even stirring beans on a stovetop isnt rocket science. Give it a go.

    Hi Andy,

Newbie question from a complete novice. Are there any roasters in Sydney that you / other CSers know of who can roast me a batch of green beans? I am a bit nervous about roasting coffee in a saucepan.

    Cheers,

    Koti.

Yesterday while Coffee Snobs website said Good Morning Barryd, whatever I tried, BeanBay would not accept me as being logged in and rejected my attempt to buy greens.

Just be thankful you lot live over east and not in the west which we pay a higher premium for delivery, and  also a longer waiting time of which we are accustomed to.

Yep, always faster result to email Andy directly when you think theres a problem. Saves him time to respond here too.

I dont reckon its too bad Gazza.
My 10kg order placed on Tuesday night, arrived in Perth Thursday. Reckon anyone courier would struggle to beat that.
The cost? $27 as against the $15 had i done it through the pickup point. Ultimately its cost me $12, which equates to $1.20/kg For the speed and convenience its a no-brainer. The pickup point is on the wrong side of the river for us also.
Factor in fuel costs and its a few bucks less
I probably shouldnt be sprouting off what a good deal it is in case Andy gets to thinkin too much... hehehe

After a good nights sleep both I and BB clicked right this morning and I ordered a bag each of PNG Kone Ka Estate Peaberry & Sulawesi Toarco Jaya Triple Picked. Both new to me.

My order has already been shipped by Andy through Aus Post.

i must confess......i think i grabbed the last 2kg of the Monsoon, love it....however i think the Mexican and the Peru Ceja are now battling for the "right" to go in the grinder.  ;D as a side note on that Mexican and Peru are lovely in a 50/50 blend, smooth magic.
