Is the Brazil Bourbon Naturals like the Brazil Original Bourbon?
From memory and notes, yes quite similar although I think this one is a cleaner processing.

The rising prices note in the email wasnt really a scare campaign to promote sales, it was just a heads-up that prices are going to "go nuts" this year.
Understood that but it will probably have the effect of boosting sales anyway.

Interesting graph. It suggests the price may double inside the year ending July 2011 if the current trend continues.

I guess long suffering farmers deserve earning better money for their crop but I also wonder if holding their crops back means we will be seeing beans from the previous season hitting the markets (and maybe even advertised as this years)?

Yikes! I think Ill stock up on some tried and tested beans. I use Brazil Natural pulped in lot of my blends. I figure I go through about 35kg of coffee per year.

How long do green coffee beans last in pantry before they degrade?

          say 3yrs * 35kg =

I hope not! It would push the roasted price out to $70-$80kg

It could, but I expect without good storage and living in high humidity areas they then run the risk of mould and other nasties that would make it worth zero. I expect its more a month to month holding of available beans as they speculate on the price.

Of course! (I needed a smiley on my reply). I get cursed every BBay by CSrs who were trying to not buy any beans.

A couple of years without a problem, 3 or more if you store them very well. I roasted some well stored Puerto Rico Yauco from 2.5 years ago and they came up as good as I remembered.

that Kenya Kagongo Peaberry sounds like it would fit in well with my blacks and his whites
The reviews ive read of this bean are nothing short of outstanding so that combined with Andys thoughts make it a very appealing prospect.

Well the wholesale market price would double from $1.40 to $2.80 or thereabouts)which hopefully will only increment the retail price by $1.40 to $2 per kg.

Those prices in the graph are for commodity coffee per pound at the farm.

Multiply by 2.2 to make it per kilo, add $$$ internal brokerage and ground transport to the docks, add funigation certs $$, documentation $$, sea freight $$$$ and then clearing fees $$$, Dock fees $$, duties $$$, unloading $$, AQIS fees $$, freight to store $$$ and thats before any local packing and distribution costs!

The fees addup to about $6/kg for small lots and $3/kg for full container loads on top of the current price of $5.50 for the beans... and thats the costs to land commodity grade (typically C grade) coffee. So even on current pricing at origin, commodity grade (nasty) will be about $10/kg and high grade (AB grade and above) will land at about $15 which makes the specialty coffees push into the minimum $20/kg range and $30-$50 will become quite common.

Im curious how the cafes that are under contract for $18/kg roasted will go as that sort of price will quickly become less than cost even for low grade blends. Im sure there are some sales dudes in big roasting compaines cleaning up their CVs at the moment too.

                                Hi Rick

As per Andys first post in this thread, the only NSW pickup point is in Kellyville.

                                It happens to be us.
