What an awesome chance to live coffee in one of the worlds oldest coffee trading hubs.
Looking forward to the report. Ive yet to try Turkish coffee but Turkey is on my bucket list of travel destinations (along with Cuba, Costa Rica, Mauritius, Ethiopia).
Heck, the Turks were doing BeanBay in Constantinople nearly 1600 years ago.
Interested to see if there is any effect on BeanBay in Geelong 2011+

Well the rest of my month is seriously full and not in the country so this is the only window it can happen in. (ergo my 4am+ finish to yesterdays working day)

    ;D

I love Turkish coffee, a local place did "Turkish Special" which was coffee and Raki, we used to knock back plenty "way back when".

Australia is a melting pot of coffee traditions and Melbourne is blessed with strong Italian, Lebanese, Greek, Turkish and Arab communities who all bought (and mostly kept) their coffee techniques when the previous generation settled here.

For competition it means that I have a mongel version of Cezve use without the hang-ups of ancestral tradition.... so I can do it because it tastes good!

Unless your real name is Osmandy Freemanoglou.
That sounds more Greek than Turkish to me

Oooo...Dominican! Well done Mr. F and good luck on your Cezce comp.
Is the Turkey stopover for a crash course on Turkish coffee brewing  ? Unless your real name is Osmandy Freemanoglu.

Well done to the Australian Barista Champion Matt Perger who came 3rd on the World Stage in the WBC2011 Colombia event, an excellent result from all his hard work and was a pleasure to watch his professionalism and skill on the stage.

    Monthly BeanBay GREEN Bean Sale

    Wednesday 8th June 2011
    8pm AEST
    (Australian Eastern Standard Time)

8pm QLD, ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS
    7.30pm SA, NT
    6pm WA

The beans available at the above date/times will be:

    Ethiopian Gambella Sundried $11/kg*
Amazing coffee that we often called "poor mans Yemen".  Very similar in style to the dry processed Yemeni beans the Gambella is full of sweet ripe fruit flavours like sultanas and red berries it has some earthy spice aromas and off the group handle you will see a syrup like pour.  Huge body, bold and wild coffee that shows just how wonderful old growth heirloom coffee can be.

    Brazil Yellow Bourbon Especial $12/kg*
This is a clean, washed and hand sorted Brazil coffee.  Bourbon is the variety of coffee tree, the Yellow refers to the coffee fruit which ripens to a yellow not red.  As an espresso the sweetness and the lingering finish are the standouts.  Among the best Brazils we have seen in the last 12 months.

    Ethiopia Ghimbi $12.50/kg*
After a long Ghimbi drought this is the second shipment this year of this coffee.  Wild, earthy, spicy and fruity espresso shots that work well as a single origin but also work well as highlight to a balanced blend.  Sun dried processing and organic farming methods leave this Western Ethiopian coffee at its natural best.

Santo Domingo Cibao Altura AA $12/kg*
This is one of the great coffees from the Dominican Republic.  I have very fond memories of the triple-A Dominican coffees we were landing 5 years ago and this is as close to those as I have found since.  Grown at high altitude (Altura) and graded to AA size as an espresso it has a good body with a sharp, crisp finish.  A great example of how good Centrals can be.

    Sumatran Aged Late Pick $11.50/kg*
Over the years I have tried many samples of aged Indonesian coffees and each time I have thought of them as a marketing gimmick to unload old and often musty past crops.  Well that was until we sampled this Sumatran.  This was picked at the end of the season as the fruit turned deep red, its then harvested, processed and left to dry over a longer period and being turned often has resulted in none of the funky aromas.  The result in the cup is good bodied coffee that is a little too sharp as an espresso but stunningly bold in milk based drinks.

    * price per kilo packed in 2.5kg CoffeeSnobs cotton bags and includes the FairCrack $0.50/kg donation.

You can select direct shipping via Australia Post and Star Track Express along with some other options depending on where you live or you can collect your paid order from...

    Pickup Points (one per state)

QLD - Veneziano - West End
    NSW - "cksyd" - Kellyville
    NSW - Erkochurch - Erskinville
    TAS - "ParaM" – Hobart
SA - Fiefys Specialty Cafe - Adelaide
    WA - "Caffeinefreak" - Wembley
    VIC - Veneziano - Abbotsford
Sorry, no Melbourne pickup this month.

We hope to get beans to the pickup points by: 24/6/2011

This delivery date is a best guess as we are often at the whim of couriers around the country. Generally when the beans arrive at the pickup point someone will post in this thread to let you know the time/date that you should meet for the pickup.

Please dont annoy the pickup points by asking for your beans before they let you know they are available for collection.
