Shipping beans to the US will probably cost more than the beans themselves. Plus its a PITA to do with all the rules and regs dealing with the importation of food products.

          Too impractical I guess.

I understand shipping could be expensive but I cant have 2 K of roasted Fiefys blend going stale while US or Aus customs twiddles their thumbs for a few weeks.

Sorry Opother, I agree with Javaphile.

USFDA "Prior Notice" plus the local customs decs, identification checks (and new security fee, see below) mean that I would drop at least an hour, maybe two in time to send it.
Add to that the $25/kg for shipping 5kg to the USA and ouch!

who have been slugged with an extra $9 on top of standard charges to send parcels larger than 453g to the US via Australia Post.

But the government-owned corporation insisted it was simply recovering increased costs of more stringent airport screening and air freight as a result of US Government requirements.

US transport and security agencies insisted on the new measures after two parcel bombs sent from Yemen were found on a US-bound plane in October.

While some national postal services, such as Japan Post, suspended large package deliveries to the US, Australia Post decided to apply the $9 charge from November 22.

Carry-on baggage is your best bet.... but add a return flight to the cost and it becomes expensive coffee.

I need advice on stash hiding ...

When youve got plenty of green beans but you just went and bought a whole lot more, where are the best spots to casually conceal your stash without it being too obviously hidden? Do I go for the deepest corners of the garage, dig a hole in the garden, or take a deep breath and pile it on the kitchen table and say "but its yemen!" ?

Thinking of what is good for the beans many have suggested the linen cupboard, dry and good ambient temperature but not okay if its laced with mothballs  Currently my linen cupboard has more green beans than linen  With 10kg more arriving from July beanbay I may have to oust more unnecessary linen  ;D Careful though if you have purchased the  Yemen Al-Hajj Boaan as it does hoag a little  (in the nicest possible coffeeish way of course  :

Currently on Yorke Peninsula the garage and hole in the garden would not be recommended as it has been damp and we are at "tail-end" of mouse plague.

In short dbd if you cannot stash in the linen cupboard recommend you boldly "pile it on the kitchen table SHOUTING but its yemen!" [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

To help you out with your dilemma I hereby offer to hide your stash of Yemen at my place. Very reasonable storage rates available.

"Canberraish" shouldnt be too far away when you need to recover what left.

                        Thats very decent of you.
Would you anticipate any evaporation of stashed yemen?

Mouse plague here too. I was wondering if I could try for Kopi Luwak a la mouse. Although it might be difficult to catch the little buggers afterwards. Anyone tried this?

My order has already been delivered.
Even by your lofty standards, thats incredibly good service, Andy.

The Sanaani beans in particular smell divine (and boy, are they tiny, even by Yemeni standards).
In contrast, the El Salvadorian beans are monsters!

Ive had no real experience with Aussie beans but this MTC lot are very pretty looking beans.

Id love to be out roasting today but ive got about 700gm of brown on the go so i might have to restrain myself for a few more days.

Yeah, Im pretty impressed with myself sometimes too.

I packed till midnight at which time I think snow clouds were forming inside the Snobbery and came back early this morning to continue. The first courier arrived just after 9am and yours was in that lot. You were lucky it arrived today, the planets must have aligned as I expected tomorrow morning woud be more "normal".

Plenty of other orders shipped today too and multiple courier pickups and a trip to the post office with half a van full.

Packing tomorrows shipments now and I expect most everyone with direct shipping should have their beans before the weekend.

The pickup point options will remain open till sometime tomorrow and then they will be packed and will ship Thursday morning... which should ensure they arrive everywhere by the estimated 29th July.

                            Happy roasting everyone!

If that were to happen it would only be to ensure the quality of the storage environment.

How are your hands after closing so many bags with the metal ties?
Im probably doing it stupidly but i always end up with sore thumbs after opening and closing bags.
