Re: Monthly BeanBay GREEN Bean Sale - THURSDAY 11th August 2011

Ah well, just got my quad basket (thanks Tango, and of course Javaphile) and it doesnt fit my Gaggia classic portafilter despite me thinking it did based on the description. This might be due to my gaggia being an older (1993) model. No biggie as it DOES fit the Azkoyen standard 58mm p/f and, obviously, the Azkoyen naked p/f.

I guess that gives me another incentive to move the Azkoyen refurb further up the project list.

Would have been nice with a 6am start tomorrow to try out the new toy. At least I have some Ceja De Selva from a previous Beanbay just about at its peak 8 days post roast.

well I just emptied a bag a couple of weeks ago and will probably finish off another this week, so im not changing the amount of bags, just how many beans are in them LOL
Did you know you can get 4 or 5kg in one of our bags?
...ergo you "could" double the bean stash.
    (Im in trouble now)
    ;D

you could potentially offer a roasting surcharge
Hmmm... interesting idea. Not sure how workable it would be though but Ill kick it around.

I suppose the gotcha would be youd have to buy 2.5kg of roast.
Yes, which will only yeild 2kg of roasted. I can 100s of hours in email explaining that one to people that bought green beans or then asked why cant they buy 250g at a time.

...maybe we just rotate the brown offerings each month instead. Then I only have to answer the emails asking "where did xxxxx go?".

    Winning!
    Im glad!

There are a couple of gotchas...

    1. We roast to order so if carry too many varieties then there isnt enough in some batches to meet the minimum for the roaster.  I then have to roast way more then we sell that day and end-up having to try and use the rest myself.

    2. If I drop a variety that we already offer I cop a big pile of email from cranky people.

If we were happy to sell old coffee it would be ok... but that isnt going to happen.

I will try and rotate a few new beans through each month though as I can see the excitement in your post.

    8-)
Im not sure if this would work but you could potentially offer a roasting surcharge and have it as an option in green beanbay like you have with the grinding options.
that way theres an understanding that its limited stock, and you would only be roasting to order still.
I suppose the gotcha would be youd have to buy 2.5kg of roast.

tough situation but you do a great job as is, so maybe having the odd one on roast is more of a treat for us

Last month when everyone went mad over the Yemeni I was jealous because I dont roast, this month Im glad Andy decided to supply the two specials roasted - I know it must be a huge task for him to roast so much but last month I was thinking "wouldnt it be great if they could roast the specials"
    and they have!
    Winning!

Wow, you have the will power to wait?? I normally start brewing a few minutes after cool down... ;D

Cant wait for my stash to arrive and more importantly meet a few local CSers at the pick up.

    Cheers

    ChocChai sensation!
While this is off topic and probably warrants its own "ways with Chai" thread, I havent tried this with the CS Chai, but you can make your own Chai Egg Custard (and, if youre game, I guess you could use the steam wand) - 1 egg yolk, 1 cup milk, 1T sugar, 1/2T cornflour, 1 qty chai (I generally use a chai teabag, but whatever works). Make sure the cornflour and sugar is dissolved, heat until boiling, stirring constantly.

Dont knock it till you try it. Its amazing.

From 0kg to about 25kg in about a month, not bad for someone who only goes through 1kg a month, Im offloading some of my stockpile to friends just to have room and justification if something special pops up in future monthly sales.

More Peru as a staple bean
    Some Mexico Yeni
and the Uru estate for this months special

I might have to double my "home" consumption

Thanks Andy for supplying us addicts with our fix

I need to reduce down my stocks of beans
Thats CS math for sure, add 1 bag to make your stocks smaller?

1 peru de selva and a bag of the tanzanian faircrack this time, managed to restrain myself to only 2 bags of which only 1 is really for me, the peru is for someone at work

the burundi sounded interesting and I was very tempted to grab a bag, but I know I need to reduce down my stocks of beans as I have nowhere to put any more lol

Hmmm... I might have one of those soon. Cold in the Snobbery tonight and I have a bit of packing to do. Chai as a balanced meal?!?!
    Grin
    Haha
You know whats best about this new Snobby Instant Chai? It gets my better half on the Domobar and learning how to texture her soy milk.
Ive had the Domobar for a little over a year and shes never been game to learn, instead asking me whenever she feels like a coffee (which is always a couple of times a day), but such is her love on this Snobby Instant Chai thats shes now keen on learning how to use the machine properly.
