    Monthly Green Bean BeanBay

    Tuesday 13th December
    20:00 AEDT

Im pretty sure the overly complicated daylight savings timezones translate to:

    8:00pm ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS
    7:30pm SA
    7:00pm QLD
    6:30pm NT
    5:00pm WA

The new beans that will appear in BeanBay at the above times are:

    Peru Sugunda Wilds $7.00/kg*
Wild picked, ugly, chipped, broken, blacks, odd sized and unsorted.  It roasts uneven but if you can look past all the indicators that this will be a bad coffee then in the cup you will find that it produces what can only be described as a 5 bean single origin blend.  Milled by Cafe Perusha this coffee is sold as a commercial base bean but it drinks ok by itself.  Good body, low acidity and at $7/kg this bargain coffee will surprise you.

    PNG Wahgi AA $12.00/kg*
The Wahgi is back!  Well washed, sorted and sized this is a really easy bean to roast and the results work well through a number of roast depths and brewing styles.  Bright and acidic at CS8, Sweet at CS9, full of cocoa at CS10.  I like it as an doppio espresso at CS9 where its still has some lingering brightness but this coffee really shines best in milk based drinks.

    Brazil Pulped Natural $10/kg*
These are sun dried and screened to a large bean 17/18.  They are easy to roast but will produce a lot of chaff just before 1st crack.  In the cup it has a big fat body and while it drinks well as a single origin its really the perfect 50% base to an Italian style espresso when taken up to a CS10.

    El Salvador Finca Himalaya $14.00/kg*
It has been 5 or 6 years since we have had access to this great coffee.  The de Salaverrias from El Salvador Himalaya Estate have won placings in nearly every Cup of Excellence competition in the last 8 years and as such the world demand for their coffee is very high and we were lucky to get some of this crop.  This is a 100% Bourbon varietal, very clean and well graded.  Roast for espresso at CS10 and its a sweet choc bomb, roast for filter at CS8 and it becomes brighter and floral.

    India Kodagu Geisha $14.00/kg*
This is grown in the western highlands of India on a small plantation. Finding single estate varietals is becoming easier but Geisha out of india is quite unusual.  Clean, well sorted it produces a great bodied espresso with a sweet spice finish.  Those that get to try this one should love it.

    * price per kilo packed in 2.5kg CoffeeSnobs cotton bags and includes the FairCrack $0.50/kg donation.

You can select direct shipping via Australia Post (express or road) and Star Track Express (air or road) along with some other options depending on where you live. or you can collect your paid order from Morgan Street (when Im there).

Ive been drinking some El Salvador Finca La Fany for the past week, its an interesting bean... pours are very thin yet it still has a good amount of flavour in the cup - even in milk. Whats the body like in this Himalaya varietal Andy?

Ive only done the two sample roasts of it so far. Mid bodied on the espresso roast, lighter bodied on the CS8. It will greatly depend on your roast depth and method what you get in the cup.

I see from the email that there are some more Polo Tops in stock.

Any chance of some larger sizes in a future run Andy?

Despite having lost 10kg of late it seems my armpits are still too far apart for the XL. ;D

The sizes are bigger than they suggest, I think the XL is really a XXL.

Maybe start a poll for larger sized ones and if there is enough interest Ill ask Jykee to do a special run.

I forgot what beanbay was like.
I cant work out what to buy and keep adding items, then removing them when i see something else.

Going to try the cheapy Peru beans to practice with, as well as some fruity Ethiopians.
Cant decide whether to go for the El Salvador Finca Himalaya or the Indian Geisha.

                  Decisions, decisions.

                      You smooth talking .....

I just spent far more than I should have considering my old roasting set up is still in Cairns, and I only have a breadmaker so far here.

                              No worries Tommyp!

We send pretty much everything the same day we see payment for it. It can be pretty stressful to get it all shipped out (even worse on roast day) but we normally manage it ok (just!).

Bank transfers after 5pm dont appear in our account for 2 days (a transfer after 5pm on a Friday wont appear till Tuesday!), PayPal is instant (but you cop the fees)... either way we send as soon as humanly possible because I understand what its like to have to wait for something.

                              Happy roasting!

                              8-)
