    Monthly Green Bean BeanBay

    Monday 16th Jan 2012
    20:00 AEDT

Im pretty sure the overly complicated daylight savings timezones translate to:

    8:00pm ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS
    7:30pm SA
    7:00pm QLD
    6:30pm NT
    5:00pm WA

The new beans that will appear in BeanBay at the above times are:

    India Monsoon Malabar Gold $10.50/kg*
is a AA grade large screen size monsooned coffee.  The coffee is left to dry on racks slowly through the wet and windy monsoon season and this unique process yeilds a light weight, large size bean.  Easy to roast it produces a crema monster in the cup with heavy bodied gelatinous crema and spicy, earthy flavours.  Often enjoyed as a low acidity single origin or added to a blend to improve the crema.
Due to the size of the beans this is packed in 2kg lots.

    Guatemala Huehuetenango $11.50/kg*
is a high grown and well processed coffee.  Bright and lively granny smith type acidity at a high CS8 roast depth which softens as you take it darker into CS9.  Mid bodied espresso shots that really cut through the taller milk drinks with dry, clean finish.  Excellent Central American coffee.

    Kenya Kieni Mugaga AA $19/kg*
is an amazing Kenyan coffee.  Large bean size and well graded it was milled by the Kieni coop who continue to produce some of the best coffees in Kenyan competition every year.  This is a very hard bean that takes some heat early in the roast, it also darkens at a lower temperature (higher sugars maybe?) so roast by the probe not the colour.  Huge room filling florals off the grinder and big bright espresso screams Kenyan at you.  Pricey but a great example of how good a Kenyan can be.

    Jamaican Blue Mountain $96/kg*
We have purchased a single barrel from the Stoneleigh coffee mill.  Stoneleigh is owned by the Jamaica Coffee Corporation and is a new, state of the art coffee mill on the Blue Mountain producing the highest grade JBM available.  This is one of the most expensive coffees in the world if you dont count the ones that come out of critters.  Is it worth it?  I have always thought the JBM is overpriced but if you have never tried genuine Blue Mountain coffee then for around $1 a cup you now can.  Due to the high purchase cost this has been packed in 1kg foil bags (not 2.5kg cotton) so you wont need a second mortgage to try it.

    * price per kilo packed in 2.5kg CoffeeSnobs cotton bags and includes the FairCrack $0.50/kg donation.

You can select direct shipping via Australia Post (express or road) and Star Track Express (air or road) along with some other options depending on where you live. or you can collect your paid order from Morgan Street (when Im there).

This delivery date is a best guess as we are often at the whim of couriers around the country. Generally when the beans arrive at the pickup point someone will post in this thread to let you know the time/date that you should meet for the pickup.

Please dont annoy the pickup points by asking for your beans before they let you know in this thread they are available for collection.

    Enjoy!

Last week we landed a huge amount of the Monsoon so it wont sell out today but it is the only shipment for the year. If I had to guess I would say we have 6 months supply but Ive been wrong before.

Still new to roasting so tried seaching for Kenya Kieni Mugaga AA to get some roasting tips but came up empty handed. So when Andy says roast by the probe not the colour what bean temperature should you be looking for with this bean?
