Re: Adelaide CSs Bean bay pick up

Well first login in two weeks and I see there is some Adelaide action!

When Lucinda and I discussed the idea a while ago, we thought of
SC, but were reluctant to suggest it due to aforementioned
potential conflict of interest etc. But if Peter is interested, it would
certainly be an excellent place to collect beans, meet, and enjoy
a few coffees in the process.

Grey: I started roasting with poppers, found without too much trouble
at op shops or Crime Converters; my wife found two, total of $20. Not
hard to find a BM that way either. HG was more difficult, so had to
buy that new, which hurt, but it was only $40. Now completely
convinced that roasting is the only way to go, not just to save
money, but to get beans roasted however you want them. Makes
things a bit easier in this city of over roasted beans

Wouldnt you know it - I have hospital appointments in town wednesday and thursday mornings so cant meet up with either of you then - though Thursday afternoon may be a goer if they get me through the line up fast.

Thanks for highlighting this one Greg. I must have missed this one earlier.
I am a definite green bean at being a coffee snob as I only got my first machine just before Xmas.
I have not tried roasting beans yet but am seriously thinking of trying it.
I have even been given permission by my wife to use our Mistral Popper as it has only been used twice. Plus I told her it would be much cheaper to roast my own. Would love to try a Corretto roaster but our breadmaker is missing its paddle and is a Panasonic which I have read is too smart. Might have to check out some Garage Sales or Evilbay for one.
I have been thinking about getting the starter pack and some greens in the next bean bay.
I work in the city so that would be my preference as a pick up or Simply Coffee as it is only 15 min walk from town. I am thinking about checking out Simply Coffee on Wed as I have the day off. Or else might wait for a cooler day and go for a walk there.

Late in on this one, but Id recommend Simply Coffee in Kent Town as a suitable place if hes accepting to the idea. Only thing is that he sells greens too so hopefully he doesnt feel hes being commercially disadvantaged by distributing someone elses greens. Peters a bit of a lurker on CS and Ill be seeing him later this week so maybe Ill have a chat to him.

Ironic how CS Adelaide suddenly gets off the ground once I leave; perhaps I was holding the side back?

Yep, people can have the choice of the hills pick up at Belair or we can arrange for pick up in the city so no probs there.

I can just picture myself standing on some corner with my shopping basket serruptitiously handing out calico bags of beans like some drug dealer ;D

    Sounds like a plan Lucinda!

Keep the ball rolling and we should be able to get it off the ground for the next BeanBay.

Please PM me also if you are interested in this. If we can arrange a pick up point it will keep our costs down.

I am happy to have beans delivered to my house. If we get anough interest than we can sort out a meeting place.

poor old Adelaide getting the short straw
No short straw, just slower than other states to get a few members together to make it happen.

Find a place, (a home or business that can meet a courier and/or host the pickup day and/or deliver the beans to cafe that you all agree to meet at)

Get enough people together to order a "bulk amount" (eg: 25kg-50kg)

and we will create a SA pickup point in the next BeanBay.

    Easy as that.

Yep, lets do something about poor old Adelaide getting the short straw.

I would prefer the hills but hey, anywhere in Adelaide is better than no where.

Welcome to coffeesnobs Dougie. It seems that all the other states have a pick up point so it would be good for us to have one too.

    Lucinda

Im in Adelaide and would love to see a pickup point. The city would be my preferred option, but Id also be prepared to take a trip into the hills if required.

As this is my first post, Id like to thank the site sponsors and contributors to this forum for such a great resource.
Since getting into this espresso coffee game (With help from Chris Natoli), Im roasting with the patented "Corretto" setup and absolutely loving it.
