    Indian Elephant Hills AA

    This coffee hails from the Thalanar region well known for growing coffee, citrus and cardamom. Well processed and screened to a large AA grade this is an easy coffee to roast and works well as a single origin or as a base for a traditional Italian style blend. Super sweet yet quite bold in milk based drinks. Wonderful all rounder coffee.



    Malawi Mzuzu Union AA

    Large, well processed and washed bean. Really easy to roast but is quite dense so a longer, slower roast profile will yield best results. At CS9 this bean produced a bright citrus style shot similar to a Central American bean but as CS10 this morphed into a coffee full of cocoa, sweet spices with a zingy finish. Stunning espresso shot.


    Brazil Yellow Bourbon Especial

    This is the Yellow Bourbon (ber bon) varietal, not to be confused with American corn based whiskey. Large bean, well processed. In the cup it produces a really good bodied espresso shot with woody, savoury tones and a fair level of sweetness. Well balanced and works well as a single origin for the fans of Brazil coffee style or use it as very balanced body bean as a base of a blend.

            Just got my bag of Malawi beans today. Can't wait to put on a roast this weekend! Have to give a HUGE thank you to Andy - I put the order in at 3pm yesterday, and received it at 9am this morning. Also a few of the work colleagues are loving the Ghanaian cocoa! Brilliant all round, I think I'm addicted to bean bay!

              Yeah, you cut that pretty fine DaveD.. we can't always get orders out that fast but will always do our best to send everything ASAP.

                Not wanting to revive a thread from 2012, I thought I'd post this here.

                Long time lurker, but only just joined to access Beanbay to try Espresso WOW and grab some greens.

                I've just done my first three pan roasts using some green colombians from a local coffee place (ie unknown freshness and providence, but a $9 outlay before jumping in). Two of which were quite drinkable, one of which might be good for re-blackening car tyres. Still, It's given me the confidence to go in a little bit deeper and see what I can achieve leveraging the kit I have lying around the garage (heat gun, Webber Q, butane stove, power drills, Milo tins, convection heater, etc)

                My coffee rig is limited, yet hands on. I have a Sunbeam EM0480, the original Presso, an Aldi frother (used for the odd macchiato or piccolo) and a solid Tamper. I tend to drink espresso, using a full Presso basket pulled to about 40mls over 20 seconds. My go-to beans are Campos Dark City and Obama Blends. The flavours I like in my coffee are the same I seek out in my beer and my rum - malty caramels, chocolate, toffee, honeycomb... with fruit notes tending towards berry rather than citrus.

                Running through the current beanbay list, I've short listed (in order based on Andy's notes) Tanzania Kyaruinde, PNG Wahgi, Ethopian Gambella or India Elephant Hills

                Given that the green bean sampler doesn't appear to be available, can somebody recommend which one of the above would be the most forgiving?

                (and apologies, Andy, if you responded to my direct contact - I managed to forget to renew my domain, and was off email for a few days).

                  Is it possible to source a Kenyan 'Thimu' bean? (not sure of the spelling exactly, think that's right). I've had some roasted from a roaster in Adelaide (Trevor DeGroot) that was really good, so keen to find the green beans. Not sure if its a form of peaberry (saw it referred to as such somewhere else on the web).

                    Yes it is available, from a major coffee non sponsor supplier.

                    They don't do orders less than 60 kgs so your best option would be to approach the roaster where it was sourced.

                      Hi Sheumack, All those beans are easy to roast but going on your palate I would suggest a blend (50/50 or 60/40) of either the Kyaurinde/Wahgi and the Elephant Hills.

                        Thanks. The jump from 500g to 5kg seems a little optimistic, and is likely to raise an eyebrow with the financial controller as coffee kit is already occupying a significant portion of the kitchen bench and cupboards. I've ordered the Kyaurinde + 500g of the roasted WOW. Once I get the roast consistent, I'll grab some Elephant Hills to mix it with!

                          Have done a few roasts of the Malawi Mzuzu Union now, in love with it. I am very new to the home roasting however these were my experiences:
                          - first roast I pulled a couple of minutes after FC and was not fussed with the results. I am still developing my coffee tasting palate to be able to describe flavours more objectively, however in simple terms I found the results rather bland in milk based drinks.
                          - second roast pulled just after start of second crack. Beans look to be approx CS10 and developed a few spots of oil after 3 or 4 days. As Andy's description says above, the results were amazing chocolate and spice flavours which made one of the tastiest lattes I have ever had. I have roasted a third lot to this depth and again the results are brilliant. I have also been blending this 50/50 with the PNG Wahgi and it leads to an incredibly interesting cup.


                          I know it gets said a lot around here, but the service from Andy/beanbay borders on ridiculous. Order afternoon one day and have beans arrive the next morning. Very dangerous...

                            Forrest, you're bang on with my experiences with the Malawi. I have to say in my short experience this has been my favourite SO, with Ethiopia Gambella coming in close second. Like you I did a mix of the Malawi with the PNG and thought the results were great.

                            Andy - any news on when the June release is going to happen, I'm holding off on an order as I'd like to see what the new beans are.
