I see your point of view, it is the most common explanation, and for newbs may be sufficient, but Ill let Andy decide.

Re: CoffeeSnobs glossary - input please.
I would have still called that a Single OriginOriginally posted by 0935283339382F3A32395D0 link=1232371219/7#7 date=1232405114A blend can be the same SO roasted to different profiles.
So if I get SO beans from two different batches eg 2007 and 2006, mix them together then roast, is that still a SO or is it a blend? Then if I roast two amounts of beans from one SO batch separately and then mix them its a blend? What if they are roasted using the same profile but one lot was roasted a day or two earlier than the other.
Anyway, this argument is OT here but I think needs more consideration. I can understand the reasoning but calling it a blend muddies the water too much. I think in the spirit of KISS, Id rather define a blend as being from two or more different origins.

I dont think so.Originally posted by 0003111115031B620 link=1232371219/9#9 date=1232413805Should the glossary be in two parts?
One for terms like: dosser, corretto etc
One for abbreviations: TX, pf, SO etc
One part only in alphabetical order should suffice.
I have a glossary in my game website for the same reason (newbs) and find that its easier to navigate and update a single section.

Burny Ow Ows - Havent heard that one for a while - it gets my vote.

"graeme" - what Coffee Snobs call the black plastic thingy found in some portafilters/group handles.

MT - Mountain Top (Australian Coffee grower - also see MTE - Mountain Top Estate)
BOWOW - Burny Ow Ows
I also think we need a hotlink for the important posts that new or newish members should read, like the Site sales and posting policy

I can see we will need sections in the glossary too.
General Forum
PM = Personal Message, a sort of mail system internal to the forum. Also called IM (Instant Messaging). http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?action=im
FS = For Sale
UserCP = User Control Panel, the area that you make changes to your profile including email address, password and details.
Coffee Making Hardware
Double Boiler = Like the name implies, the coffee machine has 2 boilers. One for steam , one for the espresso shot. You can steam milk and pour a shot of coffee at the same time.
HX = Heat eXchanger - Method used by single boiler coffee machines to provide two different tempertures within the same boiler. The main boiler for steam and the heat exchanger feeds the group head. You can steam milk and pour a shot of coffee at the same time.
pf = portafilter - the group handle (that holds the filter basket) in an espresso machine.
PID = Proportional Integral Derivative, a big name for a smarter and better thermostat that allows fine and accurate adjustment.
Single Boiler = One boiler in the espresso machine that does both steam for milk (over 100C+) and hot water for the espresso shot (94C.). Often with a switch to toggle between functions.
Roasting Devices
Coretto = A home modified bread maker for roasting coffee. Typically also uses a heat-gun / paint stripper to provide the heat. Named after Queensland CSr Belinda who first started using one.
Gene = short for a Gene Cafe, a commercially made home roasting machine.
HG = Heat Gun bought from a hardware store, intended to used to strip paint, they are also a great heat source for home roasting.
Hottop = a commercially made home roasting machine.
Imex = a commercially made home roasting machine.
Iroast = a commercially made home roasting machine.
Popper = A domestic Pop Corn making machine, one of the easiest ways of starting home roasting. Toss 80 grams of green coffee beans into a popper, turn it on and in about 6 minutes you will have roasted coffee.

Re: CoffeeSnobs glossary - input please.
As a recent newbie, I think some good ones would be:
doser/doserless
stepped/stepless/micrometrical
HX
single boiler/double boiler/dual purpose boiler
coretto
PID
ramping
pre-infusion
porterfilter
showerscreen
theres more, and I dont pretend to be able to provide good enough meanings for these, hopefully some more experienced CSers will fill in the blanks...

CoffeeSnobs glossary - input please.
We really need a CoffeeSnobs glossary, there are so many specific terms, acronyms, words and shortened phrases that we all use and it must be a nightare for newbies.
We can make these "hotlinks" like we have for BeanBay and the site sponsors.
A fairly simple page with the term and a one line desciption should be enough to demystify some of our jargon.
So... add away!
When we have a list Ill make a page and create the hotlinks.
