Their coffee is roasted by Zio Espresso in Albury, so Ill go via there now any see if I can get a better shot from the roastery (and maybe suggest they send a espresso shot trainer back here!!)
Have tried zoi at the source but it wasnt much to write home about, not bad but not what I would expect from someone who roasts their own. (coffee is displayed in metal buckets around the shop so that is a bit of a negative for me.)

Midnight in my hotel on sunday night and I hear that "chhhhhh thud" sound of a car sliding down the road in the wet and coming to dull thud stop.

with the Snobs van parked on the street (Anzac pde) I jumped out of bed and onto the balcony to see what happened.

On the other side of the road a car had mounted the gutter and hit the wall. The driver and passenger were fine but it did attract a but of police attention including the riot squad?!?!?
          Shocked

Ahhh, gotta love life in the "big smoke"
Did it bring back memories of Atlanta?! ;D

Far out! I completely missed the cafetto stand and it looked awesome!
The Cafetto stand was over your right shoulder when you were standing at the DiBella stand. Im shure you will catch Chris or Peter at a future event though.

Maybe the topic should be"CafeBiz 2009 trip- have CoffeeSnobs will travel and Consult "

            Stay safe on the road.
Well I took the whole "revive / alive" message to heart and the return trip has been broken down into shorter stints. In fact currently Ive pulled over in Airport West (just over an hour from home) as the traffic was really heavy and I might as well let it pass for an hour.

I hear ya. The metal bucket thing makes me cringe too but there are plenty of sucessful (high sales) retail roasters that do that. Not what I would do but hey, I dont have a retail shop!

Not until now Java. Yeah, it was the same dull thud that you just knew was expensive for someone. The difference in Sydney is that the Snobvan was out the front and there was far less of a "Cops - the trailerpark soap opera" happening outside.

            ;D

Re: CafeBiz 2009 - have CoffeeSnobs will roast!

Well I zig-zagged off the highway and went to Zio Espresso.

I got a far better doppio espresso there and one to take-away (sorry, forgot to take a picture). Coffee is roasted onsite and its a really busy little shop. Plenty of toys on the shelves and a large range of beans for sale.

The only gotcha was that the takeaway cups imparted a flavour/aroma to the coffee. Its common that some inks stink and I guess most people dont notice but it drives me nuts.

Latte art on the customers drinks was as good as any of the big name snob hangouts too.

I dobbed-in the submarine cafe and suggested that someone goes for a drive to offer some free training. I waws told they are doing a big volume of coffee but I did suggest that maybe their repeat custom was low as I cannot see any espresso drinker going back a second time. With any luck their game gets lifted and the next trip up the Hume is better.

The coffee I had at both submarine cafe and Zios roastery was called "Southern Italian" and it was pretty spot-on for the label. A light body and I would guess mostly a brazil base with a dash of robusta roasted fairly dark. A lot of "bite" as an espresso but it would really cut into milk based drinks (which is most of everyones market).

Worth a diversion from the Hume the next time you find yourself on the long road to or from Sydney.

Re: CafeBiz 2009 - have CoffeeSnobs will roast!

Last post before I head-off for the last of the drive home sweet home...

Trucks carry all sorts of weird and wonderful things around our road system. Here are a couple of shots of things that I came across.

First couple of shots are of a latte cup (American SUPERSIZED latte) and a really big coffee hopper.

Second is a couple of fairly serious coffee bean coolers.

Ok... I admit after 3 days doing coffee in Sydney and (mostly tedious) 2000km of driving I think I might have coffee seep into the grey matter.

                  :

CafeBiz was great. I look forward to next years so we can do it all again... even better!

Got a copy, havent had much chance to read it yet but looks like its a great source of info about coffee in general and even got latte art tips from Con.

I remember buying the first edition just as i was starting out in coffee over 3 years ago.

I had a quick look at Dis copy as she flicked through it. Great looking pictures and printed on nice stock. Looks like another quality production.
