Re: Vic Barista Comp - Sat 8th April, 10am, Fed Sq
Hi Rob,Originally posted by Robster link=1144157346/0#1 date=1144308449The Fed Square web site unfortunately still has the event listed for 11am. Im hoping to be there to watch, but I dont know about this cold rainy weather . . .
The event was originally scheduled to start at 10, but, owing to the ridiculous number of entrants, it will be starting an hour earlier. The competition is scheduled to finish at 5pm, after which time we can expect a small delay until the top three are announced. There are three, I think, Tasmanians flying up and they will only be competing against each other ... so I wonder wholl be in their top three ;P
Nope, maybe next year. Ill be judging in the afternoon, helping in the morning and probably spectating around midday.Originally posted by Robster link=1144157346/0#1 date=1144308449Are you a competitor this year?
The legacy of the Commonwealth Games, perhaps. I hear that there were a whole bunch of venue changes, plus the whole switch to ECM for equipment sponsorship.Originally posted by 2muchcoffeeman link=1144157346/0#2 date=1144315804Yeah- pretty poor that the organising committee was unable to get any publicity anywhere >
....A website, something on the aascaa website maybe?? Some publicity in Epicure??? Something on the Fed. Square website or on Citysearch??? Heck, they could have even asked somebody to post here or on CG??? Nope...a big, fat Nada.....
I wonder if they will be disappointed if/when nobody turns up to have a look on Saturday? Not good enough, gang....
I think that barista comps are something that doesnt really have all that much general appeal, though. I dont know that people who arent really in the industry would turn up to watch them for more than one or two competitors. The important things are that (a) the baristi get the best possible experience that they can be provided with and (b) the profile of specialty coffee is raised through media exposure, which I presume will happen regardless of advertising.
Cheers,
Luca

Just a post to give yall some info on the VBC, which doesnt seem to have been advertised terrifically well because of the Comm games.
In short, all of the details that you need to know are in the title! The competition will be held at the main stage. Yes, thats right - outdoors.
<snip>
This year, the competitors will be using two-group ECM Venezianos, not the two-group lineas of years past.
Cheers,
Luca

Vic Barista Comp - Sat 8th April, 10am, Fed Square
Hi guys,
Just a post to give yall some info on the VBC, which doesnt seem to have been advertised terrifically well because of the Comm games.
In short, all of the detailst that you need to know are in the title! The competition will be held at the main stage. Yes, thats right - outdoors.
Competitors will have fifteen minutes to prepare:
4x Espressi
4x Cappuccini
4x Signature Drink
If yall are interested, the rules and scoresheets are available for download at www.worldbaristachampionship.com
There are more than twenty entrants this year, so the comp will start at 10, rather than 11, in order to squeeze them all in. I imagine that it will take quite a while to get through them all.
This year, the competitors will be using two-group ECM Venezianos, not the two-group lineas of years past.
Cheers,
