Re: World Barista Competition 2007 - Tokoyo

As anyone found out what Scotties final standing was? Cant seem to find it anywhere but thought someone may have known someone there at the competition that noted it.

I actually think that it was quite a good result. Remember that one of Scotts roburs jammed up, so he was forced to use his espresso blend for everything. Any bets, it wasnt able to handle milk and that cost him the finals. Last year, Davids choice to take the Kony was responsible for him going overtime and losing points; it seemed to go even slower in Berne than over here. The lesson to be learned in each case is that Australian grinders dont travel well and there are obvious solutions to that.

If you look at Klaus, Tim, Troels, etc ... in fact, every WBC winner after the first one, they have all won on their second or third try. This actually places Australia in a good position now, provided that Scott, David and Hazel are the ones that represent us over the next few years. This might sound undemocratic, but its the only way that Australia is ever going to take home another WBC title.

          Cheers,

          Luca

Yeah given his problems with the grinder he did very well - I reckon it will be not too long before we see a crew go over early if they are taking grinders so that they can spend some time settling them in - or finding acceptable local substitutes.

Third place Carl Sara, Muffin Break NZ. This just goes to show the places you can get a good coffee. The other day I got a decent cup from this old chinese lady at a coffee cart in Sydney University.
