Re: Sydney Coffee Crawl - December 15 2007

    Hey guys,

I might invite myself along if thats ok with everyone.

Has anyone thought up what the likely route will be?

Alex who used to work at Elixir when it was called Luxe has joined the all-star team at Mecca. Im working about five minutes walk away, so they have been keeping me caffeinated all week in the absence of an espresso machine at home.

Theres a place called "supreme grind" along elizabeth street that I have been walking past on my way to Mecca. Its OK.

I might check out Baci tomorrow.

    Cheers,

    Luca

      Hey Guys,

Yay, Luca...i read in your blog you were gonna be in Sydney and it did cross my mind whether youd come!

OK, my brain is frazzled (24hrs of doing stats is enough to make my brain want to roll over and die!) but i agree we should formulate a list of places in the next week or so (thanks Brett). What do people think about SO (What is SO 2mcm, does it have a full name), bacci, supreme grind and Elixir? Any other suggestions? What do people think about the number of places on the itinerary; whats a good number? One of my friends suggested a single origins place in ?surry hills?; I dont know anything about it though.

Maybe next week or so ill PM my mobile number to people coming so if you want to rock up halfway or are late or lost we can communicate. Does that make sense?

Lovely. Im looking forward to this!

        Okay, good news and bad

Dropped in at Cordial on the way through, and their usual barista (youll recognise him from the red/ginger hair and smiles) who also happens to be one of the golden cobra roasters, is away that day. Funnily enough, hes there on the 8th and the 22nd. Still seems a good place to have breakfast though.

Good news, luca is joining us - without taking this off-topic, luca are you in sydney at the moment then?

Ive also had "Little Marionette" in Balmain highly recommended to me - being a few hundred yards away from my new office, message me through the forums if any CSer wants to meet up and try it out.

Koko Espresso in Surry Hills (Devonshire St) is also worth a look if we get bored or undercaffeinated.

The obvious route to me would be Cordial > Campos > Tobys Estate > Central/Surry Hills > Town Hall/Kent St > Bondi Junction.

Hey Sammy, Single Origin (SO) in Surry Hills is one of the best but is closed on weekends.

Hey, I was in Cordial this morning having a chat to Sonny, who you met yesterday. It seems that him and Dave, the other barista/Golden Cobra roaster already have something on that day. He asked me if the date could be changed, as he really wants to be there when you all go in. I know thats not going to happen, but I did say Id double check.

He also said that if we cant change the date, but the group met there in the morning early enough, he should be able to come down make coffees while were there. Ill be able to come along for breakfast at Cordial as well. I plan to be back in there on Saturday so can talk to Sonny again and see if I can work out a start time for the group that means he can be there. I will, of course, be trying for the currently organised start time of 8-8:30.

Hm. I guess if Sonny can be there early enough and its not too much trouble for him than thatd probably suit us better because I reckon its a bit too late to change the date at this stage. ...just what exactly did he mean by early though?...

SO = Single Origin. how obvious; Silly me!

                Thanks for that Hazchem!

That route sounds good Identity (i dont know sydney all that well so wasnt sure what was the best route through the cafes)

Re: Sydney Coffee Crawl - December 15 2007

Im sure theres no maximum limit - this is just an informal crawl. Well meet where we want to (seems to be Cordial) and go where we want. For anyone who wants to meet the group mid-way through the crawl, PM me for my mobile number (Im happy for any CSer to have it) and Ill be happy to let you know where were up to!

                    Hazel,

Sonny seems a great bloke and he was obviously gutted (is that only an english expression) when he said the 8th or 22nd was fne but that he couldnt be there on the 15th. Im happy to crawl on the 22nd but Im sure Id be the exception - people are away for Christmas etc, and the 8th is obviously Di Bartoli. I said if it looked possible Id suggest changing the date too, but I cant see how it would be :/. Sonny pours some of the best latte art Ive ever seen.
