Where is Cordial in Newtown? I have been to Campos, went looking for Cordials, but could not find them.

    Thanks,
    its on Carillon Avenue.

If you walk down Missenden Rd from Campos, towards RPA youll come to a set of lights. Turn left here (Carillon Ave) and youll pretty much see Cordial just down the road a bit.

I had a strong Latte everywhere, and started on the black stuff at the better places.

    - Cordial, lovely way to start the day. A great cup which I wouldve appreciated more if wed hit it later in the day. Free beans from Sonny made this extra special. This is my regular haunt in Newtown though, so maybe Im biased (or its become by favourite for a reason)

    - Campos has disappointed me a few times over the last few months, this time especially. The latte was grassy and had fewer floral and citrus notes than Im used to from them. The only cup Ive ever not finished there.

    - Tobys Estate was a mixed bag. One or two people loved the Cuban single origin in the black drinks, and a couple of people said best latte so far. For me, it redeemed itself (Ive never been a fan) by being better than Campos on the day, but it was bland for my tastes - tasted of commercial vanilla rather than vanilla bean, and a bit one-dimensional.

    - Mecca was unilaterally agreed to produce really great coffee, apart from a skim-latte incident which was quickly fixed! First round of espresso & latte had slightly burnt crema, but this was fixed in the next round. Trying two espressos next to each other, I was amazed at the repeatability achieved - I couldnt taste the difference between shots. Great gin notes, but mostly neroli on the palate! Well balanced, great body, great mouthfeel....and good sandwiches to boot.

    - Luxe.....did nice fruit juices. FeijoaSnobs.com.au anyone?

    - Di Bartoli were friendly and passed round some great blends and SO coffees. I think we were all so highly caffeinated by that point that it was difficult to appreciate it as much as we would otherwise have done, but it was a great place to debrief and have a chat. The coffee was great too - though Im a regular customer for their Benito and Sig. House blends, along with their diverse SO coffees.

Im looking forward to our next crawl - I was stunned at how quickly the time went and Im convinced that someone was hiding in our watches and spinning the hands round. Next time I might remember to get something into my stomach before starting to drink coffee!

Welcome Cindy - I hope you enjoy your stay in Sydney, and please join us for the next one if youre around!

    John

Sydney CSrs, What great timing for me that I arrive in Sydney for a few days work and find this great thread to guide me to where to find an exceptional coffee in the morning. I am sorry I didnt get here one day earlier and I could have joined the crawl. I am looking forward to visiting Mecca in the morning.

I am a new CS member and have learned a lot so far. I am one month into my relationship with Silvia and Rocky and the local Brisbane roasters. Thanks for a great site to guide my journey.

    Welcome to Coffee Snobs Cindy.
Maybe youll be able to join a BrisVegas crawl or be lucky enough to be in Sydney for one of our future ones.

Does the term cuban (in this sense) refer to the origen of the beans or the method of extraction?
It is in reference to the origin of the beans. On the day we were at Tobys Estate they were using a Cuban bean for black coffees. The milk coffees were an organic blend, which is what I had for my piccolo. Tobys got mixed reviews on the day though.

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for coming and also for planning the coffeecrawl together. I had a fun day (maybe not so fun when the caffeine OD started sinking in!) and it was lovely to meet you all.

I think my favourites for the day were mecca and Cordial, and thanks Cordial for the coffee.

Hope you all have a great Christmas!

    S

Yah, it was nice to see everyone and meet new people. Sorry I had to go right after brekkie as it seems like everyone had fun.

Big thanks to Cordial for the free coffee and their good and friendly service, and of course the coffee!

That was a great day, it was wonderful to catch up with "old" snob friends and make some new ones.  And the coffee - I have never had so many great coffees in one day, or such pretty looking ones.  My favourites were Cordial and Mecca and my least preferred coffee came from Campos, it was still a high quality coffee, I just didnt really like the taste that much.

My thanks to Sanch and Identity for organising the day. Scoot, I know I saw a camera at some point, so pictures should show up eventually.

It was a really great day!

I enjoyed re-uniting with old Coffeesnob friends, putting new faces to names, getting to know the person attached to each name.... and tasting some very fine coffee.

For me, my tastebuds tingled at Tobys Estate with a Cuban long black...my tatebuds obviously contradicted others and my expectations as well...but isnt it a wonderful thing to get out and enjoy things like we did!

Thanks to Sanch and Identity for the idea and organization, fellow-Coffeesnobs for taking the opportunity and time to make it work and Vivianne for the truly excellent taxi work!

    Brisbane Coffee Crawl ...

Fantastic that Sydney CSers organise & draw mutual interest to have a great time together!

On that note, a call to fellow Brisbane CSers to do something similar in the new year - I unfortunately missed out on Nathans very generous hosting of the November bean-bay offerings, but reckon theres probably a crowd of people up here willing to crawl to key spots?

Key spots in Brizzy ... where dya reckon, and why - the all important coffee, the food, both, ambience, blah blah?

Hopefully Ive got some sort of ball rolling ...

    Cheers,
    Tony

Well the cafe crawl was a great day, and long! Thanks to Sanch for getting this off the ground.

The cafes along the way had ups and downs and some cafes that were high for some were lows for others, but a good day all the same. 8am start at Cordial for breakfast and coffees and a free 250g bag of beans for all snobs to test out a new blend. Than to Campos than Tobys Estate at Broadway, than to Mecca, than to Luxe at Bondi Junction, and finally the friendly faces at Di Bartoli.

It was great to catch up with some other snobs and meet even more friendly people from here. So was well worth it as far as I am concerned and Mecca was my favourite of the day.

    Brett
