Spent a great couple of hours at Cafebiz today.

It was a lot smaller than I had anticipated but it was great to chat to some CSers, and put a few more names to faces.

Im always amazed at how friendly and open coffee-people seem to be, its really encouraging. Good to see yall

Now, Im off to play with my new toy ... hubby bought me the Nez du Cafe set ... how cool is he?! 8-)

Pity I didnt get to make it down. The weather and other factors conspired against me there.

So, how was it? Where are the promised piccies?

        Looking forward to hearing more...

          Re: CafeBiz 2008 - 13th & 14th April - Sydney

I wasnt well enough this morning to make my planned trip to Blackheath and therefore plan B of CafeBiz was also out.

          I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Im OK. Just exhaustion. I worked 11 hours yesterday.
First Staurday in 18 years. Im usually tuckered out by Friday night.

11 hours beats last years AromaFest by 1.

The difference is that making coffee and spending 10 hours on your feet is nowhere near as painful as 10 hours on a PC testing systems because I like making coffee.

              Re: CafeBiz 2008 - 13th & 14th April - Sydney

Hey all, just to let you know I had a great half day out at Randwick on Sunday at the Biz.

It was great to go around and have free coffee all day....

It was funny cos the amount of times I got asked, "So which part of the industry are you in?" and having to give the response, "Im not really, I just love coffee.", was hilarious. That was always followed up with, "No seriously, why you here?" haha.

It was good to meet some of the site sponos in person - let me firstly say that Andys pic on this site doesnt do him any justice. ; had the pleasure of having coffees made by Mr Makin on his Makin with the Makin comp blend, a shot from Renzo at the ECA stand.... plus a few others from Danes, the Dalla Corte.... I think I ended up with 9 shots in total within a space of 3.5 hrs.
Sorry to the other CS members I didnt say Hi to.... I didnt exactly know who was who... if you saw a young, dashing, asian looking aussie with a navy CBGB shirt that was me

Anyway a great day! Wish I could have stayed longer... I had to leave after the first few rounds of the Latte art comp.

Yeeza, sorry I didnt get to say hello to you. You were there...somewhere because we left around the same time as you.
Michelle, great to meet you! Sorry I couldnt spend more time catching up with you and share some coffee stories...maybe next time.

Wow. I got a whole heap of things from CafeBiz. Coffee parts was my big haul. I got 2 keyrings. one with a PF on it and the other a tamper. They are soooo cute. The tamper is really quite heavy, which surprised me. I also bought the toroid jug. Really interesting to use, takes a little to get used to but the microfoam it produces is spectacular! Also bought a wand cleaner, brush cleaner for the shower head, and a tamping mat.
A little disappointed as they forgot to bring some coffee bags.
At the Da Vinci syrups stand (where I had to stop the other half wanting the whole range of them) I got some Macadamia nut, French Vanilla, Caramel and Roasted Almond syrups...Which made our carry on luggage for the plane, just a wee bit over the limit!!

Had a play on the Boema machine too, that was really awesome, and I pulled a great shot on it too! Caught up with Chris at ECA and had an hour catchup and some useful advice from Attilio about my Unico Splendor, thank you for that Attilio, you have made my husband respect my machine more...Watched the cocktail and latte art comps and then went back to the hotel.

I want to thank Andy again for taking Brian and myself back to the Hotel, I owe you one  [smiley=dankk2.gif]

Yeah, same Linda. Just had to get back to the little people before they became little terrors ... Lovely to be able to put a face to the screen name though!

It was great catching-up with (and meeting for the first time) so many CSrs and sponsors over the 3 days I was up in Sydney. I shared lots of laughs and kicked around all sorts of eclectic ideas with anyone who wanted to listen, it really was a fun trip and I look forward to CafeBiz 2009.

Excellent pics Emily, Im embarrassed to post my nasty blurs now but I will anyway.

                        Starting with an arty shot...

I flew into Sydney early, grabbed a hire car and went to a really great cafe in Thornleigh.

Its also a really nice drive along Yanko Rd for those that are planning on a visit.

After spending 2-3 hours at Wine of the Bean Cafe Haus I headed south(ish) back into town to checkout the AASCA NSW Barista champs.

These are the funky trophies that they were competing for...

...and these were the very happy Barista dudes that took them home.

well, except for Chris Short from Cafetto who was a sponsor of the event but didnt get a trophy.

In fact the Cafetto gear is so popular Chris hired security to look after his banners at the event.
