Between Pioneer and Di Bella there should be some regular barista jams happening before next years comp.
... totally agree Jason - but wheres the Di Bella presence on this forum mate? :-?

      Hi Tony

In defense of Di Bella - not sure if a presence on a forum is needed or not, but Di Bella is 100% committed to the growth and success of specialty coffee here in QLD and Australia.

Also, no-one else besides people like Jason were willing to help get the barista comp off the ground this year and Di Bella put their hand up to organise it. A lot of work goes into these things and they are long hard days - especially for the judges (as Jason will attest).

Anyway, I dont think Di Bella should be judged on whether they post on a forum or not.

Andy knows of my experiences here on this forum and I have been negatively spoken about by people on this forum. So one can understand no longer wanting to take part in this forum - but I did feel the need to defend a company that is doing the right thing as far as Specialty Coffee is concerned.

Also, QLD is way behind the other states as far as Barista Jams etc go and if people like Jason and Di Bella can improve this and get the rest of Australia to find out how many great baristas we have hiding in our cafes then I want to be a part of that. I do barista comps not because I think I am the best (because Im not) but because Im passionate about my industry and craft.

Anyway, hope to see you pop into the factory at Bowen Hills Tony!

      Cheers
      Anne

        Congrats on the win Anne,

I have little doubt that it was well deserved!

Hope to see you in Melbourne...

Ive been to Phils factory numerous times over the past 4 years, because Ive been using Di Bellas Modena at my cafe for that amount of time! ;D

My comment wasnt aimed so much at judging Di Bella (being a long time user of his beans, I admire the passion & commitment to quality) but I spose more at imploring more baristi outside of Melbourne & Sydney, who use a diversity of specialty beans, to comment on this forum. A broader spectrum of views I think would enrich the forum. It kinda worked - you responded!

Well done on the win BTW Anne - I was there watching & you were very polished & professional. Good luck in Melbourne, & Ill say gday next time Im at the factory.

          Cheers,
          Tony

...and Andy is less than impressed!

Anne is a great example of someone with a true coffee passion that could teach most people here something if they wanted to learn. Heck, you only have to look at her username to work that out!

I think right now is a great time for everyone to consider the content of their posted messages BEFORE pressing the "post" button.

Congrats on winning the first of the state rounds Anne, it was the hardest because of the very short lead time and you obviously handled it well.

Your name is now proudly at the top of the AASCA ABC schedule on the forum!

dont let the turkey wannabes get at ya Anne ... Itd be a shame to see a talented barista not give her voice here

Kinda ironic that you feel the need to defend Di Bella from a long-time customer! As said, my comments were made to invigorate a bit of baristi passion into the forum, NOT to damn Di Bellas contribution to espresso awareness ...

It was one of Annes open invitations to a CS/CG get together at Pioneer a couple of years back that got me out and experiencing coffee from a wider range of perspectives, with amateurs and professionals all mixing it up and having a great time. Thats where I saw demonstrated for the first time, popcorn popper roasting...

Alas these semi-regular get togethers have become much less regular recently, probably due to a number of factors. Anyway, it was always a pleasure to speak to Anne, Jason, Lukey, Ant, May and others at these occasions (whilst drinking copious amounts of fresh coffee thats been expertly prepared). Thats why Ill be trying to get to Pioneer this Sunday, even though I have a flight at stupid-am the next morning...

                    Cheers,

                    Mark.

Re: AASCA - 2008 Qld Barista Championships

I had a really great day on Saturday and I believe that is has shown that there is renewed interest in specialty coffee in Brisbane!

There are more AASCA initiatives being planned throughout the year to help in growing the barista/roaster network in Brisbane. Anne Cooper is a fantastic ambassador for QLD and will be in the mix for the finals in Melbourne.

Guys like Jason and Phil are putting themselves out there for the wider coffee community and they have my support!!!!

I look forward to being both personally available and also the full facilities of the Veneziano roastery & first pour when it opens in Brisbane in the few months.

                      Keep it growing!

nice spot, just been rezoned so their should be a lot more people in the next few years as the buildings all get higher.

Excellent - I live only 5 mins away

Are you planning to have roasting infrastructure on site, or is it just a distribution warehouse for beans roasted in Melbourne? Whens the grand opening?

We are planning on having the full SHA BANG in Brisbane as we do not wish to be the coffee company that roasts in one location and ships interstate. We much prefer to roast local... Kicking off with a 30kg roaster on site, training rooms, cupping studio, first pour espresso bar. Going to make sure that we have all the toys to play with... Oh FB80 and the usual variation of grinders and reverse osmosis water treatment.

We cant give an exact date to opening as we are still going through council on a few matters, nothing major tho...

Really looking forward to moving back to the home town and get some coffee rocking... You are all welcome to kick the tyres when we open... We will keep you posted.
