Big news indeed there fellow Snobs!
CS has just received Press Credentials for what has traditionally been the largest gathering of coffee professionals in the world and has been labeled the Global Coffee Event of the Year. Yup! CS will be attending the 2008 Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Annual Conference!! This years conference (http://conference.scaa.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1) is being held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 2nd through the 5th and in attendance will be your intrepid CS reporter, Moi!
Welcoming events start on the 1st with events scheduled through the evening of the 5th and I plan on being in attendance from beginning to end! Some how I dont think Ill have to pack any CP for this trip! Anybody know of an anti-caffeine pill?!? :
;D
The 2007 SCAA conference saw over 500 exhibitors from 78 countries displaying their wares along with over 8,500 attendees and this years conference is expected to be equally popular. I hope everybody is packing warm clothes as I suspect it wont be anywhere near as warm (Minneapolis is expecting 30+cm of snow tonight with a Winter Storm Warning in effect from Thursday evening through Saturday) as last years conference in Long Beach California. Instead of watching breaking waves on the beach attendees can watch the breaking up of the ice on the local lakes! :
;D
At this point the plan is to do postings through-out the conference as time permits with more in depth reports being posted after the conference is over. We are also looking into the possibility of doing live pod casts from the conference if I can get a strong enough signal in the convention center from the city wide WiFi system that Minneapolis has in place.
So, what would yall most like to see/hear about? Is there a particular person youd like to ask a question of? Particular equipment youd like see/hear about? Keep in mind that video is not allowed on the conference floor with-out special permission and an escort from the organization. Stills are allowed on the conference floor with permission from the subjects.
Post your thoughts here on what youd like to see/hear about and Ill do my best to cover as many of them as possible!
Java "Going to SCAA!" phile
