    Re: NSW/ACT/TAS CoffeeSnobs "Roast-Off"...

I think an SO blend is fair.
I contemplated it as the only "rule" I saw was all using the same bean (Kimel).

Depending on roasting equipment it may be unavoidable.
I can roast 500g at a time in my corretto but others may not be able to roast 500g in one batch.

All the satchels have left the building and are being picked up by courier this afternoon.

All Tassie entries are being sent to Lizzie for distribution (thanks Lizzie) and are individually marked.

      Let the Roast Off begin!

Perhaps a Mod might be kind enough to alter the title of this thread to read:

      NSW/ACT/TAS CoffeeSnobs "Roast-Off"...

for some reason this post from Dennis has appeared in the middle of the posts made on the 29th, even though it was made on the 1st of May of April.....

      bumped FYI

Lizzi, it happened because the mods joined the TAS Roast-off thread to this one. Have a look back there after Dens post,.. next one was TasAdams post.... thats where the join was made and you can see the conversation looks rather disjointed,..and if you didnt know this..TasAdams post following Dens comes across as a little ungrateful of being accepted into Dens Roast-Off,.. only reason I picked it up is because I knew TasAdam had asked that question days before Den took all us strays in. See the titles of each post.

the Gene only does about 280gm, so i wil have to blend to get to 500gm...

Nice to see this has provoked some thought about SO blends. Though if you have a preferred profile and use it twice, then that should produce two (near) identical roasts...I wouldnt really call that a blend.

Sorry about this mix-up Lizzi.... Its quite a messy business trying to splice one thread into another and keep the chronology sensible. Ive tried to do it a couple of times and ended up getting myself and the threads, into a hell of a mess so I dont even try anymore :-[. I actually put a short note in the Tassie Roast-Off thread to help sort out what was going on at the time, maybe I should have expanded on this a bit :-?.

                  Cheers mate,
                  Mal.

b4b holds his hands up to reveal five fingers on each hand then unbuttons his shirt to show Dennis the scar where the other head was removed. ;D

Quick question: Are there any rules about what we can do?

For example, is a SO blend acceptable?
Very cheeky.  Guess no one thought of that.

Would be vry interesting to see the results if it is allowed.
                              I did...

And since there arent really any rules re roasting, (except dont start a fire or annoy your neighbours) I dont see why not.  It is, after all, about getting the best out of the bean.  Having 3kg to play with should allow people to experiment.
So, are we saying blending the Kimel is cool? While that may be fun, I dont see how that works toward the original idea, when I remembered Dennis mentioning early. That was, I thought we were going to see people simply roast the Kimel as an SO, and then cup that and assess everyones roast.

I guess I dont mind either way, but I thought that was the original intent?

                              Regards
                              Chris

                                Hi Chris

The intent is to get the best roast possible with the Kimel I sent out. Ill know if there are any other bean varieties added.

So, as long as you blend the Kimel I sent, with the Kimel I sent...thats cool.
