Re: SCAA 2008 Espresso machine pics
um... WOW!
Ive got a nose bleed...
A few things come to mind.
Firstly, thank you very much for your efforts with the camera - never seen anything like much of what this thread has to offer.
Secondly, the thought of the forklift, block & tackle, muscle men, whatever, putting this show together... One heck of an effort.
Thirdly, um... WOW!

Re: SCAA 2008 Espresso machine pics
I want to know if those new Rancilio portafilter handles will be available in Aus anytime soon.
They look so much nicer then the current "standard" ones and I think the slight curve at the back will help keep it steady while tamping.
There are some dead-sexy machines in that set of photos.
Thanks Javaphile for sharing.

I believe the latest range of Nuova Simonellis have saturated group heads ... not sure whether that provides insulation though Yeeza :-?Originally posted by YeeZa link=1210126942/75#76 date=1210143718You dont think that theyre just asking to get fried/burnt/ v.hot sitting there. I like the idea, I just hope (Im sure they did)they insulated it well.Originally posted by Andy Freeman link=1210126942/60#74 date=1210137718In the new machines, I like the Nuova Simonelli idea of putting the volumetric buttons on the group head cover (post #6, page #1). A much better place to access the buttons and lots of cool blue lighting too.
I have a NS Mac 2000v 2 group which looks like it belongs in a museum compared to that flash lookin piece of work!

HEY! How about pictures of all the ugly people you met at the show?
My feet still hurt as well! I think I walked more than 20 miles over the weekend. The rest of the time was spent standing in the Hottop booth. Between working for those folks and trying to make contacts for the next year for my website, I am still wiped after getting home. Ahhh, the endless joys of airline travel. "Would you like some loo paper sir? That will be $3.50."
I should have a full report from my POV online on my website by the end of tomorrow.
Nice job with the pics of all the machines. I was so busy that there were some I didnt even see when I walked the floor.
Thanks for stopping by the Hottop booth. Was great to meet you!

That LM GB/5 (#45) is a beautiful thing. I saw one of those in the flesh when I went to the Mecca 2 yesterday. All that stainless.... well everything - plush. Id have it... oh and one of those GS/3s. Im sure they dont need 4 of them.
Man, these photos are just making me sick with jealousy.... any greener and Id make Kermit look grey.

Re: SCAA 2008 Espresso machine pics
ROFLMAO I had the same initial reaction Shannon! I wanted to go run and grab the StrongArm (http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1210132770/22#22) and do battle with it! :Originally posted by Shannon link=1210126942/75#80 date=1210164578Post 6 - on page 1.
I swear although I like this, my very first reaction was OMG it looks like the Alien in said series of movies popping out of the machine. The way the reflections bounced and the general shape of the GH made it feel that way.
Thanks for the efforts Java - much appreciated.
;D
I can see the headline now: Newsflash! Coffee Conference canceled, Convention Center destroyed in Alien battle! LMAO ;D ;D ;D

Aw shucks Scoots, twernt nuttin...Originally posted by scoota gal link=1210126942/75#78 date=1210150345There is some very nice bling there but the one that really grabbed my eye was the Rancillio on page 4, post 52. That looks great!
There are lots of photos alright! Thanks Java, youve done a tremendous job!
/me looks aside and scuffles his feet in the dirt..
Ouch! That hurt! Theyre still tender from all the walking!
This image is a bit on the large size but I wanted to preserve detail on it.
For scale you can clearly see the cars on the east side as well as the trucks on the south side of the building.
The 4 circular structures on the building are the domes over the main hall (shown in the General Pictures thread). The trade show was under the 3 rightmost ones.
The pink circle shows the location of the elevator shaft to the underground parking ramp, which is under the park/green space. The elevator is accessible from street level or from the skyway connecting it to the convention center.
To walk from the east side of the trade floor to the car (which was in the underground ramp) and back is 3/4ths of a km even when parked with-in 10m of the elevator. I made 3 trips a day back and forth to the car to drop off stuff and upload the pics from the cam to my laptop.
To walk through the trade floor once going in a straight line down each aisle you would cover over 2.5kms. With deviations back and forth going down the aisles you could easily double or even triple that distance.
Add in going from one seminar to another spread through-out the building and you can toss in easily another 2kms or more per day.
I figure I ended up walking at least 6km a day and up too 10km or 12km on a couple of the days. Eliminating seminars and meals 8 hours or more of each day was spent on my feet. I figure that over the 5 days of the conference I ended up walking roughly 40km. Its been a long time since I walked that far and spent so much time on my feet! Tired feet indeed!!

Re: SCAA 2008 Espresso machine pics
It might be an issue or it might be the driest spot on the machine to put the electrics?!?!
I would assume their engineers thought about it first (please dont tell me the marketing guys designed it)

The first few pics of what looks like a two group speedster is interesting, especially since it has the much hyped paddle group.
I wonder what the coffee tasted like?

Re: SCAA 2008 Espresso machine pics
I think I like the retro machines the best.
The Astoria Rapallo Lever (post #12, page #1) and the Faema E61 Legend (post #62, page #5) are both "must haves". I know the E61 Legend has been around for a while but I didnt know about the Astoria.
Its also interesting to see machines with the "wrong badges" on them (different badges to here anyway).
In the new machines, I like the Nuova Simonelli idea of putting the volumetric buttons on the group head cover (post #6, page #1). A much better place to access the buttons and lots of cool blue lighting too.
