Thanks for the congratulations CSrs but you KNOW the real congrats go to everyone that makes CoffeeSnobs.com.au tick.

The friendly CS members that politely help total strangers improve their coffee roasting and making processes, the site mods that do such a sterling (and often thankless) job of keeping the forum nice and the site sponsors that are happy to help support our coffee habit.

CoffeeSnobs.com.au is the culmination of EVERYONES love of the bean, it was just The Age chose to stick my furry-faced mug shot in the paper.

As for it being an entry in the 5000 member competition, I agree but I think the reporter Michael Lallo and on-site photographer Eddie Jim are the ones that just scored an entry with that page full.

PS: To those coffee companies that still think pretty market umbrellas are more important than the contents of the cup... just look around here to see what the coffee drinkers on your local street think!

Lets all improve the planets average coffee, one cup at a time!

The Epicure includes a full page advert from a well known commercial Italian coffee brand that seems to be taking a bit of a dig.

Included in the ad is the following statement:

“It’s not about when or where the coffee was roasted, but how.”

It also mentions how long the company has been around and asks something along the lines of how many local roasters will still be around in 2121!
Yeah- lets see what happens in coffee by 2121....or even 2021...

If the big companies think that this is a mini trend, I suspect that they may well find themselves sadly mistaken.

I have had so many coffee newbies reject my offer of a cup based on their previous experiences. We here would identify those cups as most likely underextracted from old, stale low quality beans.

When pressed to try the good stuff, newbie often has an epiphany and finally understands why we are all so passionate about good specialty stuff....

The percentage of population not prepared to drink garbage coffee is only going to increase. Good thing that we have CS to help us source the good stuff....

...and how many people in 2121 will still be drinking their coffee roasted in 2008...?

Ahhh.. the benefits of only reading this stuff on-line.
I only get the articles and very little of the advertising.

Their slogan sounds hilarious to us, but it will no doubt work for many Brand Snobs.

Spam (the alleged meat product-not the e-mail) has been around for a long time too. There still appears to be a market, but not with lovers of good quality meat!

Peanuts - 40 million monkeys cant be wrong!

    Or can they?

Wow, Andy, thats really getting the word out, you bike-riding, latte-sipping elitest, you. And, whats more, the journalist seems not to have misrepresented things too much... Congrats indeed! I dont think most of us realised just how much time you put into this site of yours. For us, its just here, as if by magic! But our appreciation is fathomless Andy.

One quote I really liked: "Somewhere along the way, we forgot that coffee is a fresh food," Here, here!!

I was also interested in the other article michelle linked above. I might start a new thread about that, so as not to distract from this one.

    Thanks again Andy,
    matt

    GOOD ON YA ANDY!!
Looks like youve stitched up the 5000 member comp though...!
Im Happy that epicure is finally paying some real attention to specialty coffee, and even happier that you got a real look in in the process.
    Cheers, Anthony

Hi Snobs and Age readers ,great article Andy.
Look at the Mountaintops estate photo on page 5 (Epicure) , some of that coffee is making its way to CoffeeSnobs roasters soon (only 4 sleeps!).
Can we get a number 1 ranking on Coffeehits.com (bottom of page) this week - vote now , we were 2 at one stage last week !
