Re: Wicked Sunday (Celebrate the Bean) 2009

Yippee!!!!! Its Celebrate the Bean Sunday tomorrow. We are like 2 excited kids going on holiday. We cannot wait for 6 a.m. in the morning when we will start our 41/2 hour trek to the big smoke. We have someone else to milk "the girls" to make great milks for you C.Sers to experiment with. The City Link pass is purchased. What a day Wicked Sunday is going to be. So looking forward to putting faces to the many names we have read on the web. Well done to all who are setting up sites. It will be a great day for all but particularly for we 2 country bumpkins. The map of Fed Square is ready. Thanks Andy. Our first time ever at Federation Square. What more can we say. See you there.
Monday we intend do a city crawl of suggestions from C.Sers for great coffee and then cruise out to Veneziano and 7 Grams. We reckon by the time we head home we will have coffee pumping through our veins well and truly. Herbie and the Missus.

Many of the locations discussed are closed on Sundays. Best to check forward and avoid wild goose chases

Weather looks pretty suss, 15 years of drought and it tried to break today. Im sure at least some of the day will be fine though. Good coffee weather!

We have packed the Giotto for "Staff Shots". Without a whole pile of permits we cannot make coffee for the public (will be too busy making smoke and chaff anyway) but Im sure that the CSrs on the stand will
want a coffee though the day.

The CS van is packed (boy, its full o beans and stuff) and apart from the few last minute things we are ready to roll too.

We had planned on giving away what we roasted on the day to the public but without a City of Melbourne permit we aint allowed to.

So anything that CSrs roast on the day will have to taken home for you, your freinds and family. We have PLENTY of beans to roast including some from this BeanBay too.

I wonder how many kilos the world record is for a tent full of home roasters in a day?

No matter how bad we need the rain (got plenty in Camberwell today believe me...) it had better not rain this out if it knows whats good for it *shakes fist at mum nature*

Re: Wicked Sunday (Celebrate the Bean) 2009

Just got back from Celebrate the bean.
                    What a great morning.

Started with a dibella flat white - Pretty good and went down well as the first coffee of the day.
Then a 5 senses flat white - average.
The St Ali Ristretto was fantastic (pick of the day)
Had an average machiato from Tobys.

Wanted to get a siphon from Toshi at St Ali - they were having power issues. The halogen heaters are awesome.

The Coffeesnobs tent was a hive of activity - smelled great and good to see a hottop (had never seen one before). I bought a selection of roasted Beans from Andy which I will try once the caffeine has worn off.

It was good to see the various sponsors tents sprinkled around.
There was lots of good food, and some entertainment.

Did not get to watch any of the demos as had the family causing chaos.

If you have not been down there today - would definitly recommend it.

                    B

Re: Wicked Sunday (Celebrate the Bean) 2009

Ive only just got back from Wicked Sunday myself, was lucky enough to see the syphons in action at St Ali, was fascinated by how the process actually works as ive never seen one used before

Found the coffeesnobs stand easily next to the stage, seemed to be the heart of the bean side of things

Thanks to Andy for giving me the chance to try my first DIY roast with a popper up on stage, and thanks for the greens as well, next pay will get me a popper and ill put them to good use

Weve only got an apartment but thats nothing that a fan and an open window wont stop ;D

What a fun day. Great to see some fellow CSers, drink some goood coffee and take in the sites.

Unfortunately I couldnt hang around the CS stand as much as I would have liked to as I also had a family in tow.

Scored myself a few freebies, plus some esmeralda (no it wasnt free). The only problem is I dont have a decent way of brewing it. A real blow your socks off when cupped, but once I put it through my swissgold filter it muddied the flavours and added a hint of sourishness to it.

yes I tried this. got a tiny little cup with a few sips! when hot is was surprisingly grassy I though, but as cooled, really was very nice. That was about all I managed, trying to make my way around with pusher and 2 girls! Also picked up some roasted from Andy, and currently enjoying the peru grace villa at home.

Hi C.Sers. Just back at the hotel after a great day of meeting C.Sers. Well done to Andy, Chris, Linda et al at the stand. Wow what an effort. Heat gun and bowl, Poppers,2 Corretos, I-roast, hottop, gene cafe all going great guns. The aroma of freshly roasting coffee wafted in the air all day.Great work. Met fellow C.Sers including Karen "Coffee Mum" and had great chats to other C.Sers as well. The Home Barista Championship was an all male affair and was close competition. In the end 22 year old Chris who is a member of the BeanScene Mag pulled the best shots and won the day. Darren 2nd had the best milk texture in the judges eyes and Hughan (excuse spelling) 16 years young was third. Started entering comps at 14. What a great line up of young men. So enthused with coffee. Great day. One wetting shower about 2p.m then another at 4 p.m. Coffee, chocolate and cheesed out. Well done to all for a great day. Herbie and the Missus. Thanks Greenman for your suggestions for coffee crusing in CBD.

I had an amazing long black from 5 Senses, a great couple of espressos from St ali. A very suprising (in an entirely good way) Syphon (also from St Ali) filled with berry berry goodness (cant remember the origin though). Had a pretty bad flat white from di bella, awesome gelati from skye gelati. Also had a wonderful flight of coffees (selection of four filter coffees) from 5 senses, which I thought was a fantastic idea. Saw some great presentations up on stage (while smelling the fantastic smells wafting from next door ;P).

All in all a fantastic (all-be-it over-caffeinated) day. Thanks to everyone involved! ;D
