Re: Wicked Sunday (Celebrate the Bean) 2009

I managed to get to this as well with family in tow - 6 month old twins and 4 year old. Enjoyed it thoroughly as much as I could.

Tobys estate pulled a very nice sweet syrupy single ristretto (even though I asked for a double espresso  ;D) Regardless, the cup was very good.

5 Sensis pulled an amazing double espresso, started off with Jasmine/floral aroma and flavors, then got nice choc followed by some very balanced acidity as it cooled. The guys at the tent were great, happy to chat and explain the coffee and its origin.

The Coffeesnobs tent was a hive of activity. Hats off to you Andy, a great effort and one that got lots of activity and chat. I couldnt hang around as long as I wanted too but enjoyed it thoroughly.

Great family location. Thanks for a great day to Andy, all the CoffeeSnobs that contributed and the organizes. Whole family enjoyed it. Cant wait for next years event

    Javabeen.

I had a great day, first off stopped by St Ali and had some syphon brew, then purchased a hario the coffee was quite nice once it cooled a bit. It was a kenyan bean but cant remember what type.
Then I stopped off at coffeesnobs and it was very busy but I pushed through had a chat with Beanflying, as he had his syphon there and was roasting on the hottop.
Then had a chat with Chris who was giving the Gene a bit of a work out. While I was there he done 3 roast one after another.

Then watched the guys roasting with thier correttos, a very impresive setup with the laptop and the coffeesnobs software seemed to go well.Linda gave me some coffee roasted by Chris on the Gene.

Got an espresso from Obscura, and picked up some darkhorse.

Forgot to say ...well done to Andy for his great popper demonstration on the stage. Many of the public were gobsmacked at the results. Andy gave great roasting tips and information to everyone. Herbie

Re: Wicked Sunday (Celebrate the Bean) 2009

Wow, what a day out in the sun and rain we had at Federation Square.
Thousands of people who had never seen a green bean before got to see just how easy it is to home roast.  During the day we had smoke and chaff billowing off poppers, dog bowls, Hottop, Gene Cafe and a couple of different breadmakers.  It was great sight to see.

A huge thanks to Linda, Tim, Reuben, Pip, Bruce, Chris, Nic and the crowd of CS’rs that came and had some fun on the day, the huge efforts you all put-in meant that we had multiple roasters running all day and the curious public loved it.  Once again the CS tent was easily the best, most interesting and busiest at the event with people 4 and 5 deep all day and to top it all off we never had use the fire extinguisher.

It really was a great day, tiring and I’m sure everyone on the stand has lost their voices from talking all day but its worth it when you see peoples eyes light up with amazement that its possible to roast coffee at home.

So many great people in the CS community.  Thank you for making the day great and thank you for being you.
                8-)

Next event will be in Sydney at CafeBiz where the NSW CSrs can have some fun making a mess.

Certainly was a great day and all the roasters going at the CS tent had great numbers of curious onlookers. Im sure there will be a fair jump in members over the next few days.

Well done to Andy and all who helped at the tent with roasting etc.

                  Brett.

                        WICKED, WICKED, WICKED DAY

So very educational, I saw and tasted a siphon coffee for the first time, it was a Kenyan, very smooth and sweet as it cooled, and so interesting to watch, Toshi made it look easy.

Had a couple of Bonsoy lattes from StAli, very nice, will have to source some for home, and has given me confidence to try other soys when Im out.

Bought a new grouphead cleaning brush from the cleaning products stand and scored some stencils and a small tub of backflush powder, for free

Tasted some awesome chocolate, and bought enough to make this yearseggs.

Sampled the King Island cheeses, but there was none left when I went back to buy (take esky & ice next year)

Then there was the CS tent [smiley=thumbsup.gif] I caught the aroma as I walked throuh the car park, instant direction finder, I arrived there a bit after 10.30, all roasters going, the crowd was milling about and it was the same all day, lots of people, watching, asking questions, learning, buying.

My pre-conceived intention for the day was to convince myself that I needed a Hottop. However, after watching several roasts in both the Hottop and the Gene, and talking to Linda, Beanflying and Chris (Talk Coffee) who just happened to have a Gene in his car (Wicked Man ;D) I changed my mind and came home with a lovely new Gene now for a bit of bean reseach and Ill be roasting tonight.

To Andy and all your helpers, volunteer roasters, and other CSers I met yesterday, thankyou! It was wonderful to meet all of you and put faces to names, learn more about roasting and spend some time with such a wonderful group of enthusiastc, knowlegable and helpful people [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

We got there in time to watch the roasting demo on stage which went down well with the crowd.  After the rain came down for a brief time we had lunch from St Ali and latte from Five Senses.  Picked up my beans from Coffeesnobs tent and watched a syphon demo at St Ali tent.

Just my opinion, but having said all that, I do feel it was not as good an event for the punter as last year.  Attending last years event was what renewed my interest in coffee after attending some small demo sessions and having a chat with David Makin.

Obviously masses more people this year in a more accessible location which is no doubt better for the organisers and stall holders, but I personally found it much harder to engage with the whole event because it was so crowded.  We left after about 90mins yesterday, where as last year we stayed almost all of the day attending the sessions, lingering around the stands, chatting to stall holders and having several relaxing coffees.

It was! as though each stall needed about 3 times the space to accomodate the crowds.

it was a great day! and it was quite crowded despite the forecast. Pity I couldnt spend a lot of time actually getting from a stall to stall but rather had to be mostly at kids playground ;-)
nevertheless, i should say the Coffeesnobs stall was the most interesting and the most crowded, even though they didnt actually serve drinks to the masses.
theres only one thing... I expected someone would be selling some good cups (something ACFish ) and I couldt find anything... pity
