Also agree Red Cross and Salvos really can make a dollar go a long way

    CB.
Having had first hand experience, I can confirm .. The salvos and then the Red Cross over most others... They have the infrastructure and less middle processes, that often reduce the final $$ / Help getting to those in need...

    My thoughts to all...

While we could setup something I think it would be better that those wanting to donate do so via the Salvos or the Red Cross.  The Salvos website was quick and easy to donate.

Both these mobs are on the ground doing whats needed.

Just to complete the story, St VincentdePaul is also in on the ground.

Online donations can be reached via:

My best wishes to all those experincing the hardship of natural disasters at the moment.
I agree with donating to the current charities running at the moment, they are at ground zero and will ensure everyone gets the help they need.

Warnings are going around for bogus charities so C/Sers be aware.

Just listening to Radio National the news coming out of Victoria is awful- it is hard to believe. Terribly tragic, and my condolences go out to anyone affected by this disaster.

Beyond immediate personal contributions- I think we should have a special site-sponsor fundraiser after the fires are out. A charity raffle would work well- if we can work out a way of doing an online raffle.

Its been a very sad week for Victorians. Our cafe will be donating $5.00 from every 250grams of coffee sold for the whole week. I know the staff will be putting all their tips in as well. Its really up to everyone to do their OWN part.

A charity auction / raffle could be an option...

We are collecting at work for the Floods as well as the Fire..

So I guess, that we also need to be aware that some have already contributed / continue to contribute and or be personally involved and thus may not be in a position to give here......

My sincere sympathy to all those who have suffered loss this weekend. My overwhelming gratitude to all those whove been out there directly and indirectly helping those in need. To the volunteers (paid and unpaid) and those with the grimmest tasks are owed a very special thank you. They may suffer for some time even if they havent had personal losses themselves.

This has been a truly terrible few days but the overwhelming support from so many people pulling together has been wonderful.

Re: Best Wishes to those experiencing fires

I watching the news last night and the death toll just overwhelmed me so I wrote this note on facebook so all my friends overseas could understand what was happening .. of course since writing this the victorian fires are on the news all over the world but I still felt the need to write it.. maybe just to get it off my chest..

                    ------
"A call to prayer for the families and friends of those lost in the Victoria bush fires in Australia"

Today I got home from work to more bad news on the TV. As I watched my prime minister nearly break down in tears on national television I could feel the grief of a nation in shock in the aftermath of our worst natural disaster on record.

So this is a call to prayer to all my friends all over the world. Pray for peace and stillness for those who have lost so much. Some parents are without children and some children are without there parents. In some areas entire towns were wiped off the map.

If you arent up to speed on how bad this situation is check out this link from one of the national Australian news websites .. there are five photos you can scroll through as well.

                    http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,25027055-421,00.html

But most importantly can I just ask everyone to pray for those who have lost friends, family, houses and land.

                    God bless.

                    Peter Graham

Re: Best Wishes to those experiencing fires

You may have read the news or seen tele reports down there about Aussie firefighters who visited California in 2008 to watch our wildland firefighters at work. As it turns out they had a lot to watch. One of the largest fires in California last summer was just over the ridge from me, and we were under precautionary evacuation orders for a couple of weeks. My Mom had to evacuate and she stayed with us twice for a total of almost two weeks, and until she returned home she was not totally sure she still had one. pretty tough for a lady in her early 80s.

My heart goes out to all those who have lost loved ones, homes, and all they owned. Plenty of folks in have known for some 20 years lost all they own, and many of them were living on the outskirts of society, happily living a simple existence. Suddenly they own nothing.

To inspire you (and not at all to brag) I will share what I did. After the fires I talked to a friend who was still fine- a fellow I trust and who has lived here all his life. I told him that if he knew anyone who needed a car t send them over. I gave the fellow who showed up my 1983 Chevy 4WD blazer which I had stopped driving a few years ago.
it had a good 350 ci engine with less than 70,000 miles on it an a rebuilt tranny with less than 8,000 miles. The rest was pretty ugly, but it ran good.

A couple of months later I saw him parked at the local store, so I went over and said "Hi." He couldnt thank me enough. he said that car allowed him to deal with the paperwork and such with the county, and even to get some work and make some money which it would not have been possible to do otherwise. Talk about a warm and fuzzy! I couldnt have been happier.

The point is, do what you can do. Donate, cash, clothes, a car if you have it, loan a travel trailer to someone so they have a place to stay while they rebuild, or whatever. Maybe roast some coffee and donate it to a raffle. The smallest effort on your part can mean an awful lot to someone who really needs it.

Great idea! The Red Cross or Salvos would be able to give advice on where you would be welcome, also consider the staging centres for the firefighters, Im sure they would be just as appreciative of a good cuppa, and it would be a nice way of saying thanks to them as well.

If it gets off the ground, Ill shout 2.5kg of greens from the next beanbay (or a kg of brown) to someone who supplies their own beans for the exercise. (PM me with your details & well sort it out)

But unfortunately due to prior family commitments i cannot do anything this weekend but like coffee mum will be more than happy to shout greens and or roasted to whoever does supply some beans to the person who supplies thier coffee to this enterprise.

As all CSrs my thoughts and well wishes go to all that are effected by the Victorian Bushfires..... i have a fund raising suggestion... just do not know how to get it started.... Help Andy!!

My Biography was written and published by Dr Robert Norton just recently... some of the CSrs got a copy at the Australian Barista Championships recently....

It costs $14.95 to print and publish etc..... and retails normally at $29.95..... i suggest we firstly offer it to CSrs at $24.95 and secondly give the 100% of the profit to the bushfire appeal on behalf of all at Coffeesnobs...

This is a suggestion... i know that Robert Norton love this idea.. and please keep in mind this is not a marketing excercise or publicity stunt... but a genuine suggestion on how we can raise funds to help whilst not taking it from the Faircrack Project......

                                I seek your thoughts CSrs
