    Re: CafeBiz Results Are In!

So Michels have won the espresso category. Theyve drawn on Innys expertise, set up good facilities and apparently also purchase very good quality beans, so its not all that hard to understand. Good on them. Clearly the potential is there for a Michels outlet with a skilled barista to be making nice coffees. Anyone know of such a place?

Id like to taste their house blend through our equipment for my own reference but im wondering whether that is even going to be possible. Admittedly i havent been near a Michels outlet for a while, but i have a feeling that if i wanted to buy beans from them it would have to be a small retail bag of stale coffee.

Does anyone know whether its at all possible to get Michels coffee fresh anywhere? I had a look at their website but no signs of fresh coffee retailing there.

This also raises the concern that perhaps the winning blend is not actually a blend which is available to consumers at the level of freshness at which it won the competition. But thats putting the cart before the horse; does anyone know where i could get a kilo or so of Michels house blend FRESH for tasting purposes?

    Michael

I hope I’m not a lone voice in the wilderness, but when I’m out and looking for a coffee I will search out Michelle’s, as they seem to produce coffee that is better than I’ve had at the other chains. Not that that is saying a great deal.

The Batemans Bay outlet is such a place, the owner/head honcho, Steve, is fantastic 8-).

If I have the right competition in mind, and I think I may have, a big congratulations to Ian Vigiers and family of Blue Mountains Coffee Roasters- a bronze and a silver medal, espresso and latte, but correct me if my facts are wrong.
Either way great to see a little player do so well!
Ian is a great guy, knowledgeable, friendly with absolutely no front

The Michels at Blackwood, here in Adelaide is pretty good. Their coffee is always fresh tasting, possible because they have a high turnover.

What surprises me is that they are next door to a cafe whose coffee is not very nice, not sure if it is the barista or the coffee they use, it always tastes a bit muddy to me.
