This is already an excellent thread and Im looking forward to reading and seeing more of your adventures!

Im surprised how you managed to get that coffee through customs Andy.

Must be fun driving down the highway in that muscle car - pity you cant put the top down and feel the wind through your beard. ;D

Wow.. that is closer to the truth than I would have thought.
It sure got me! Anywhere with traffic I was fine, just went with the flow. But a turn into a quiet street was usually to the left hand side of the road! Quiet roads, roundabouts and Hawaiis 3-way give ways were the killers for me

Oh by the way, if you have the misfortune of being pulled over, whatever you do dont hop out of the car. Hands on wheel and they approach you. SCAA with a bullet wound is just no fun.

But apart from car crashes and police shootings, HAVE A BLAST!!! hehe

Last time I was in the US I found I drove better after a few beers . At least I think I did :

Just wait until you get asked if you want regular or decaf with your next meal :P

What website will they have the worldchampsion streamed from? Is it from www.worldbaristachampionship.com ? Because last year there was a blog kinda site, where the sessions were streamed and people could comment and watch

              Cheers

I also just found from worldbasriachampionship.com - a few links down the bottom of the page.

One is to the video streaming that AM pointed out above. Check out this link for the WBC blog http://worldbaristachampionship.org/2009/

And in a few hours when I show up hell have even more coffee! Along with a grinder too! Granted its old and worn and Id never use it for grinding anything finer than drip, but it sure beats hauling along one of the Super Jollys or the Grindmaster 875! ;D

But if youre not willing to carry on the SJ  as hand luggage, can you really be considered a proper CoffeeSnob?  [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif]

Re: SCAA Atlanta 2009 - On the ground.

Well the car went back to hertz without any new scratches!  Had a couple of close moments, one lady smacked the wall of the freeway right in front of me as I was entering the on-ramp at Ventura.  She was ok but the car was a write-off.   She was mighty lucky that me and the 4 lanes of traffic all managed to swerve her.

Getting that much coffee through customs was easy as I had jumped all the pre-entry permit hoops.  Still got some weird looks though.

I have just checked into the hotel in Atlanta (very nice too) but it has no coffee maker, not even a kettle!  I can see Javaphile and I will have to go shopping soon after he gets here.

Found a great little coffee shop yesterday in California, I think I have enough pictures to make its own thread so Ill post it in the good coffee where section sometime soon.

Should be heading to the SCAA venue soon, looking forward to the first look... exciting stuff.

The below is a pic of something unusual for me and a lot of CSrs, sunset over water. Yeah I know its normal for our WA members but the rest of us dont get to see it very often.
                            8-)

Woohoo! I have arrived in one piece and found the hotel and Andy with no problems and we checked in with the SCAA folks. After we got our badges we did an initial initial walk through of the convention facilities. The Barista Comp area is much larger than last year but the trade floor appears to be significantly smaller. It will be interesting to see what it looks like when all set up.

Of course! Who else but a true snob would have brought along extra luggage for hauling all the bean samples home with?! :-? ;D

Its been a long day so Ill close this with a pic of our fearless (or is that sleepless?) leader in the hotel room earlier today. Please note that this was before the 7 hours or so of wandering around the convention center.
