I have no idea how the Belgian guy won. His Tulips were no where near as good as Erin and the Japanese guy, Machiatos were very average and the Fishes were a bit try hard. The visuals must be judged by Stevie Wonder (sorry Scottie!).

How good the art looks in the cup isnt what wins the comp, it has to match the photo submitted.

yer, but looking at photos 4 and 16 from Andy - he is completely inconsistent.

I agree, I think Periklis from Greece was the visual clear winner.  Hes a nice guy too.

Without seeing the actual score sheets its a hard to say where or why the winner won but if I was Periklis or Kenji I would be pretty peeved.

I have a pile of shots of Kirby in the Good spirits comp to post up along with the Ibrik comp.  Bens Cup Tasting is on shortly so I need to go shoot that so sadly all the pic postings will have to wait as I just dont have enough time to get them edited and posted now. With any luck I can get some Net access tonight (German time) else Ill post them after I return to Oz.

Here are some more pics.

The Cezve Ibrik comp was great fun to see, it is the most casual comp with a lot of show and pizzaz. The judges sit around in beanbags and get served coffee all day... looks like a soft job.

The winner was Greece with a great bride - groom routine that gave emotion and a story as well as the best coffee on the day.

With latte art you have to remember that its not just scored on visuals. They also score on taste and time and take difficulty into consideration. Go over a few seconds and it can change your score enough to drop you down a place or two. The art also has to be as similar to the picture of you art as possible. If you have a 8 leaf rosetta on your picture you need to pour an 8 leaf rosetta in the cup.

The scorings are usually pretty tight up the top so it wouldnt take much to lose a few points and end up with a lower rank.

...and then there was TEAM AUSTRALIA.

Rob Forsyth entered at the last minute to make sure that we scored points in the champion of the world tally and thanks to a whole lot of very helpful competitors he could compete.

The equipment was borrowed from team UK and looked great.

5 minutes before the start he grabbed Feify who was walking past and we had a team!

Rob told stories about Kangaroos, Elephants and the traditional Australian Billy Coffee (along with how to make it) in fact he got so carried away with the story the coffee boiled over.

The whole thing really was a cack.

Hats off to Rob and Feify who were really great sports to have a go.

Coffee In Good Spirits

Wow, this is a killer competition too, the European countries really take this far more seriously than I expected. It has wide and varied coffee brew methods and is really interesting to see.
