    Hi Mal,

Yeah I did suggest a new thread previously, if I start it elsewhere can it get moved to news? Cheers.
    Yes mate,

    That was my intention....

    Mal.

        Re: Aroma fest

        I had a great day!
Had a great chat with Scoota and Paula, saw Dennis briefly, met some guys on the Di Bartoli stand including Yeeza, saw TG snapping away, met Warren, finally meet Chris, and had a chat with some guy called Andy.

Chris was an absolute legend and let me sample some SO out of his Garanti (cant remember what it was for the life of me) but all I can say is WOW. Incredible syrupy sweet shot!

Sydney absolutely turned on the weather as well - over 20degrees, 100% blue skies. The only disappointment was the Clover @ Mecca. I didnt really know what to expect from it - they served an Ethiopian that lacked any body and left a weird after-taste.

All in all, great day (way too many people there!) and great to meet a whole lot of new faces!

        Ben

Well I had a great day too.

Tried 5-6 different espressos, and dont want to merely sound argumentative but I loved the clover. I didnt expect to get a lot of body from the Beloya Yirg, but the taste was clean, fruity and floral. Had two cups!

Hey Ben...that was pretty much my Clover experience the other year that I was telling you about...the coffee lacked body. Interesting to hear that yours wasnt much better...

Sydney really did turn on the weather for us today! It was just beautiful at the Rocks but it was cold riding in and out, so I was glad for my warm gear.

And Im with you too, Ben. Chriss coffee was awesome and the standout for the day for me as well. Not that I sampled much elsewhere but what I had was certainly more than enough! Glad we got in early there to get what little he had brought with him.

Finally got Paul Basset to make me coffee...well, actually Paula asked, I was just the lucky recipient! Thanks Paula! Coffee was fine but a bit hard to follow up with anything after Chriss!

Ofra kindly donated a stunning Portugese tart to myself and one to Ben early on in the morning...they were awesome. Sometimes it pays to be in the right place at the right time!

Yes great day out for me too. Though, I was getting people phobic after a while and was more than glad to be back on the scooter and heading out of the city.

Thanks for coming up, Andy and Paula, hope you guys enjoyed your weekend. Great to catch up as always!

Looking forward to hearing about the Di Bartoli home barista shootout.

Hmphh! Youd think Chris would have saved some for me!

Glad we got to make it and some of the highlights for me were...

Grinders using what must have been a thousand cups of coffee to create a pixelated Mona Lisa image (hope someone posts a pic of this).

The new Vibiemme on the ECA goes to show that a machine doesnt have to be big to pack a punch.

Was able to take a very good look at the new Breville Fresca and was totally impressed. Their team really have put a lot of thought into creating a terrific entry-level grinder/machine combo with plenty of innovative and useful features.

Nice to say hi to so many lovely coffee people...CSers of course; the always sociable Andy, and when we were introduced to Paula it was like making a, new best friend.

I was actually impressed by the Diadema centre-stage for Cosmorex. Everyone was busy, so no chance to ask about it though. It was the one with red bodywork. Might have said "lima" on the build-plate.

                        Hey all,

I enjoyed a beautiful and warm winters day at Aromafest today. Was nice to catch up with people and meet people. I took some snaps (mainly at the Di Bartoli stand) and here is the mona latte lisa (and the rest of the pics on flickr):

                          Re: Aroma fest

I thought the worst stand of the day was the Mecca stand. Totally disorganised and unprofessional. Paid for a clover and a long black and was treated to two cups of swill. This is no exaggeration by any means. As I didnt know what to expect in terms of the clover, did not know what to say when I was given a cup with about 80mls of what looked like light brown dishwater with a really odd sweet smell to it. I took one sip and threw it out. My friend had been enjoying short and long blacks all morning up in the Overseas Passenger Terminal, and I was really embarrassed when I handed him a long black that had no crema, no body and a horrible aftertaste. If anyone here on the forum knows the mob personally at Mecca, they should pass on these comments and tell them that if they cant even make a concerted effort to produce what they generally do from their King Street establishment at the Aromafest, then dont bother next year...or at least not rip the public off for $2.00. No excuses from them as everyone else was just as busy and had to produce the goods from less than perfect working conditions. Those two horrible coffees were the only negatives to what was a really great day.

                            SC64,

I was not there today, and dont know anyone from Mecca so I wont comment on their organisation or reported lack therof.

From what you said in your post, it sounds like you dont even know what clover coffee is. If so, its not fair to call it swill. Do yourself a favour and google clover. Then go an explore brewed coffee.

I had a Mecca-Beloya-Clover brew yesterday with YeeZa at the King St bar and it was freakin amazing; actually I had two cups and they were both sensational. I didnt make it out of the terminal today so wont comment anything other than that I reckon you gotta approach Clover as COMPLETELY different to espresso-based beverages. And Beloya is a pretty unique cup in itself, up there with the bestest in the world, IMHO.

Great day, went real quick. Made heaps of coffee, made HEAPS of mess, and lost my voice!

Great to see some snobs, meet some new ones and meet Andy and Paula.

Congrats Michelle on winning the shootout, deserved winner.
