I thought the fest was cranking!

Then again, that was after 10 mins and 3X double ristretto shots.

In all truth I thought the day was amazing. It is unfortunate that a human is only able to drink a finite amount of the great bean in any given day...

Did anyone buy some beans to take home?

      Dave

      Have a great day

Great photo Dave. Is it just me, or does that cloud look like a map of the USA?
Yes, I bought some Di Bartoli Italian Espresso blend and some Tobys Estate Espresso Rico. Havent tried them yet. Right at the death, Tobys were selling their packs for $12 for two. They were even giving away the ground stuff, but I bought the beans.

Was a great day. Highlight for me was the DiBartoli stand. I picked up some Benito Secret Blend. Its in my grinder now and is superb with milk. Would have loved to have stuck around and check out the shoot out but the day wasnt particularly friendly for a stroller wielding parent like myself. So many people!

I also (finally) caught-up with Martin and Melissa from Bondi Chai so I could try their product.

I still prefer our Snobby Chai but if you have to go instant for ease/speed of use this is well worth a look. The Club Cinnamon was very nice and easily one of the best instant chais I have tried.

Bondi Chai is a local business (out Newcastle way) really kicking goals on the world stage

I tried it a few years ago and coined it "Crack-Latte" cause its addictive. The only prob is one bag says it give 25 cups. More like 5. You simply need to use a lot to make it taste strong enough.

No one has mentioned the lack of Sunbeam. Does anyone know why they werent there? Was it that they didnt have anything to offer??

Well, with all the shiny real espresso machines there, they probably couldnt compete

One can only assume that there wasnt the level of ROI / increase in brand awareness/value that they were hoping for.

At a bang for buck level they are still well and truly in the game.

                      Have a look here - http://www.jimseven.com/ - Video 3

                      Which camp are you in?

                      I would suspect that

                      1. They didnt have anything new so why fess up the marketing dollars for an item that has and is selling well?

                      and

                      2. The recent partial marraige of Sunbeam and Breville saw a sensible option with the much newer Breville Fresca being showcased.

There were quite a few of the big players missing. I hear that the price of the stands went from $1800 to $3000... which is a big jump but you would have thought the price hike would only be a problem for the smaller players (who all came to play).

I think the car show circuit suffers the same problem, if GMH or Ford dont turn-up and everyone asks why but really they sell cars anyway regardless it they go to a car show or not.

The biggest issue I could see was the total lack of signage to the coffee machine area upstairs in the passenger terminal. The bodies outside were thick but only a small percentage found their way up there (and I suspect most of that was from people looking at Grinders Mona Lisa).

I think the "ROI" was smaller than it could have been thanks to the admin oversight of sinage!

$3k for a stand, 5 odd staff on Sunday rates, tonnes of gear, its an expensive day out so I hope that all "our lot" get a return on their investment.

think the lack of signage + complete lack of references on the website was pretty criminal considering the price exhibitors have to pay for the OPT space -which is by far the most expensive option!

Absolutely. When we were speaking to Ofra and she was not real happy about that either.

Looking at the impressive display Di Bartoli put on you can understand her point of view.

                            Yep

She said everything there was for sale and we told her we hoped she went home with an empty van! ;D

Agree. The cost of the stand, and the cost and work involved in setting up and running a stand, deserves better treatment. I wouldnt blame any potential standholders if they sought firm guarantees regarding signage, promotion, etc. before signing on again.

BTW - Congrats to all the standholders on their efforts. Being involved with the Di Bartoli stand, I was very impressed at the huge amount of work that Ofra and Renzo (and crew) put into it. (I wouldnt be surprised if theyre still recovering.) I know many of the people who came to the stand on the day were very impressed. I hope that, notwithstanding the organisational fubar, you got/get the appropriate returns.
