While I was busy in the code of the site I changed it to
20 most recent topics
so you will now get the most recent post in the last 20 topics which should be far more useful than 20 posts from the same thread.

We will see how it goes over the next week.

No such luck MochaMaster... the setting is a global one and although I could create another variable to do that it becomes... errrr... another variable that moves us further away from a standard installation.

...and that spells grief when we upgrade or are trying to shoot bugs.



The straw-poll suggests 20 posts.  Ill set it to that now and will see what the impact is over the next week.

PS: it still says "last 10" but does 20... Ill change that later.

Andy,

does the software allow you to let users set it up individually in our profiles? A lot of sites let you choose how much of what you want to see with a drop down box?

Just a thought from an IT nerd with experience trying to please everyone ;D

I think 20 would be a good start. Funnily enough I log in far more often when Im at work than when at home

Id guess a average days worth of postings.... whatever that might be... assuming that number is not a server killer as well :-/

Id assume most people check at least once a day.

I dont even need 10 (always lurking ) but Id guess there are quite a few who login in the evening or before/after work etc...

ok... found it in the code. (sorta)

It appears I can change the total number but not do anything tricky like "since last on".

So how big a number should it be?

(remember the bigger the number the bigger the server impact each time someone hits it)

I just checked the software and it doesnt support changing the number (maybe for server impact reasons). Ill dig deeper and change it if I can.

Yar yar - as I am currently trawling through to see what ive missed since ive been away (besides drinkable coffee  > ) a posts since last visit would be great, who knows what life changing gems ive missed

Imagine some peoples lists if they clicked "posts since last log in" Have you looked through members list lately? It seems it is a long time between drinks for some people

Does anybody else like the idea of increasing the "Last 10 posts" shortcut on the home page to "last 20 posts"? I miss way to much good stuff if Im only logging in once or twice a day. Just a thought  

Ive never used this feature, and I didnt even know it existed until you pointed it out  :-[

Is this similar to on the CG site where you can view the unread posts?
