Re: CoffeeSnobs - Go large!
You would be surprised just how fast we are filling it!
The way I see it I only have a few more years before they are big enough to expect pay or get the union on the case. Ill make hay now...
Good question! ...but I dont know the answer.
The showroom was built "because we could", we had the space and needed something a little less industrial to play in.
It really is a play room, and will have a lot of toys. Behmor, Gene Cafe, Hottop, Hearthware, iRoast and others to play with. A few new machines and grinders setup (only for off the street sales as site sponsors have that well covered now) . A few interesting old machines to pull shots on. Lots of beans and a cupping area along with a sample roaster. We will prob have some roaster or espresso training running there from time to time too and I expect a good showcase of sponsors products to try/test/play.
Who really knows what will end-up in there, its a cool area that will chop and change on a whim (or ebay bargain!).
...but I dont own it... although looking at the changes I act like I do.
It was funny when the landlord dropped in the first time, I had just finished knocking down his single door into the roaster area and it looked like a bomb went off. I was so glad I hadnt asked permission else he might have changed his mind.
;D
Nah, I cant guess a date. The problem is that Im depending on gas and electrical dudes to do their thing and with the Christmas/New Year slowdown its really hard to get parts etc. Im also funding this from my shallow pocket so its a case of what I can do, when I can do it.
BeanBay-greens are all shipping through there and we ship all the roasted coffee (which is roasted at the original Snobbery) from the new place too so really, Im working from there now.
...but as to when it will all be finished is anyones guess
Of course! Its had a hammering too with plenty of late nights... but all my cupping notes have "tastes like pine sawdust and paint"

They love it. The more they do the more involved they feel in the whole process as they earn some "prowd ownership". ...although the painting was just good ol messy fun. (I really should have got a shot at the end of the day with paint in their ears and everywhere else too!)
**shudder** I dont plan on getting a bigger one. This one is 10kg (same size as current) and Im happy with that as it is small enough to play, big enough to pay its way without making roasting a chore.
Heck, if its not fun I dont want to do it.
Ad hoc at best! Currently Im all over the place, from fighting with customs and wharfies at the dock to roasting at the other Snobbery and all sorts in between including IT work.
The closest we are to regular is being there to meet the courier pickups.
Long term we might have some need to have more fixed times but the same reply rings true...

Ill plan to keep a 43 bean jar for special visitors.
:P
Thanks everyone for the well wishes, its another leg in this fun journey and its really, really cool that you are all coming along for the ride too.
I hope each and every one of you can make the pilgrimage to the SnobbyHQ one day.
