MM - While completely off topic, CoffeeSnobs is a hobby.
It isn’t a co-op, it isn’t a hippy community, it isn’t a business but for the last few years we have aimed at making it a sustainable hobby that covers the actual expenses incurred in sourcing, packing and distribution of beans not to mention the ever increasing web hosting bills.

However, we do have some long-term goals that might make it a viable part time business in the future but even then we still hope to continue to offer the best green beans at the current prices (or with some luck / growth even lower prices) for the CoffeeSnob home roasters.

Furthermore, as the above mentioned benevolent dictator, I reserve the right to remove any more off topic discussions before the frequent visiting trolls gate crash our happy place.

Ah yes.  Im still confused as to whether this a commercial site or a public forum.  If its commercial, and were offering our ideas up for a business to use, I think people should be made aware of this explicity.  My first impression of CoffeeSnobs was as a public forum, but Im learning that this is probably not so.

I like to think of it as a Benevolent Dictatorship   ;D

Ah yes. Im still confused as to whether this a commercial site or a public forum. If its commercial, and were offering our ideas up for a business to use, I think people should be made aware of this explicity. My first impression of CoffeeSnobs was as a public forum, but Im learning that this is probably not so.

IMHO it is a "Not for profit business".... it provides sales of green bean to members, this forum for exchange of information between members free of charge and administered by volunteers.

But there is a significant cost in providing these services..... and this cost is not being borne by the normal members but by our generous site sponsors- without whom the site could not exist. So these site sponsors need to be supported and this forms part of the "not for profit business".

So yes, it is a public forum but the posters must have some sensitivity for those who are making it possible - and the site admin are responsible to make it happen (not promoting non site sponsor goods is an excellent example). Therefore there are rules to protect our investors (site sponsors) as well as the normal rules against deformation, personal attack, sexist or raciest comments, flaming posts and other politically incorrect posts - which apply on any forum.

The only way to have a totally open forum would be for members to provide a fee for service - Which I (and I suspect most other members) dont want to do.

What we have is great- committed members, sponsors who fund the site and provide the highest level of support to the membership and the freedom to discuss whatever we want (with a few small limitations).

So the chosen slogan really needs to keep our site sponsors happy as well - because without them this site could not exist!

I doubt that Andy would want the logo to be chosen by popular vote.

It is a business logo and what we might "like" might not be the sort of thing a business would want to be known by. (It has to be more "politically correct" than popular - ideally it will be both!!)

It is one thing for us to brainstorm ideas, but I would imagine Andy (possibly with the Admin team) will choose the one they want to use.
