AASCA State and National Competitions 2010-2011

The AASCA State and National Competition schedule is out for the 2010-2011 season.  

Ending with the National Specialty Coffee Championships in Queensland, January 2011.  The winners from that event will represent Australia in the 2011 World Barista Championships (WBC).

Adelaide Barista comp 2011

Jonny Pisanelli the 2011 South Australian Barista champ with a score of 588 beat second place David Moen on 560 and third place Mike Wells on 556. Pictures later.

Just the winner goes through to the Nationals but anyone that competed at the state level can enter the open heats at the Nationals.

Thats great to get a second shot at it. Seems like a lot of pressure on these guys to get everything perfect in just 15 minutes.

Jonny Pisanelli also won the cup tasting today.

All 3 finalists went through the semis into the final with 7 out of 8, after the final jonny scored a perfect 8 out of 8 in just over 3 minutes to take the cupping crown for the second year in a row.

Congrats to Jonny for Cupping and Barista and congrats to Fiefy for the Latte Art win.

Its been a great few days of competition, the South Australians run an excellent comp with lots of familiar faces putting in loads of time to make it a smooth event and Im sure next year will be even bigger.

Friday night is the AASCA Annual General Meeting (AGM), where we should get a new president as Ross quail is standing down and Bill Comley the current vice president is tripped to take over the reigns. Also at the AGM Brian Raslan will become just the second Life Member in AASCA, big congrats to a long time judge and commitee member Brian!

Next AASCA state competition is the WA one in 3 weeks time.

A barista jam was held at CNR in Northbridge last night as a fundraiser for the WA championships, 20 Rwandan COE samples were cupped, a great turnout from across the industry had a great night--good coffee, cold beer, wine and pizza
