Re: Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) 2012

Just thought I would ask here because I am having trouble finding out from anywhere else...
In case anyone is in the know...
The Barista judging calibration is to be held on Thursday 3rd May. Nobody can currently tell me what time and duration this goes for, or the venue.
I am coming to Melbourne, have joined AASCA and have printed my entry pass for this fantastic three day event.
My primary purpose for this trip to Melbourne is to see a specialist to have a cast replaced on my foot following recent surgery. This is also scheduled for 3rd May. I am trying to find out whether I need to change the appointment time so I can attend the judging calibration.
      Does anyone know the times?
I want to do the judging calibration so I can make myself available as a sensory judge if needed, following my participation as a sensory judge in the recent Tas Barista Championships (mentioned HERE).

Sounds like a question for AASCA not CoffeeSnobs or MICE.

Drop an email to judges@aasca.com and someone should get back to you.
        https://www.aasca.com/competitions/2012-aasca-australian-coffee-competition-judges-and-volunteers/

...although you might need a couple more years judging to get a gig at the Nationals. There are always tons of people putting their hand up for the Nationals and the head judge tends to select those with the most experiance first. Still... you wont know if you dont ask.

        Speaking of the Nationals...

Only a few weeks till MICE

          Hey tasadam,
yup the judges calibration is on the Thursday 2nd. From memory in the past years the calibration was after lunch time.... I think.
Like Andy said, the judges are mostly chosen on experience, but there is definitely a unofficial system of putting less experienced judges with more experienced. Performance is also monitored during the competitions for potential judges for the finals etc.

            MICE - Starts this Friday

Wow, this has come about really fast.

The 2012 Melbourne International Coffee Expo and the Australian Specialty Coffee Assn Championships start this week.

Its going to be a great 3 days of trade show and competitions. The venue has the competition floor right in the middle and the trade stands surround it so there should always be something to see or do.

            Should be a blast!

Thanks, Ive got it sussed and my name is in the hat. Dont know whether I will be selected to do any, but have made myself available and known. I have received the information on the calibration sessions and am thinking about going to both.

Can anyone tell me... I am flying in on Wednesday. I want to obtain a printed copy of the official showguide. I assume it will be in one of the papers, does anyone know if thats right? Or whether they are for sale anywhere?
Theres LOTS I want to check out and no way will I be able to find it by viewing that PDF file on my iPhone.

By the way, if any fellow CSers were looking for me to say gday, that would be good.
Im going to be there Friday as well as Saturday until mid afternoon, after which I must head for the airport.
Im fairly easy to spot at the moment, I am on crutches with a right foot issue.
The crutches are the alloy type with the grey armbands. And Im pretty slim.
                Cheers,
                Adam.

                        Hi fellow snobs
I still have two three day passes to MICE that we are giving away.
They are trade passes and will get you in any of the three days. Only condition is that you come and say hello to me at the dAncap stand. (#60) Email me back if anyone is interested.
Would probably have to picked up from our showroom in Brighton.
                        Cheers

I have one now, Craig from Veneziano was kind enough to let me take one from there.
