    Hi Guys,

I've been pretty jammed at work for a while and, so, haven't had much time to get involved. That said, I'm on the way now for the HR61 thing and please do say hi if you see me around. I'm wearing my green world brewers cup 2011 tshirt.

Hope everyone has a great day!

    Luca

I was unable to attend the MICE 2013 due to work commitments. Are there any pics on the net from the various coffee stands from the day?

Peppino, I got to run around with the camera on one of the trade days and when I get home I will hopefully put some up here on CS.

Great weekend in Melbourne (not only the coffee expo and WBC but it was also Good Beer Week!). Good to catch up with Andy and all the other CS / industry folk.

Congrats to Pete Licata (USA) on taking out the WBC and to Matt Perger for his 2nd place. I thought Matt's 15 min performance was amazing, Pete must've produced some brilliant coffee to beat him.

Hopefully, Scoota will have some nice ambient shots of the Expo and a few of Andy and the Snobs stand.
I just had to include a pic of that last machine! from the amazing to the ridiculous!

Sitting mid-way through the stand, I could see some of Matt's mistakes. Spilt milk was one. All the routines were pretty awesome. What an experience! World class show and comps!

Yeah, noticed the little slip up with the milk. Shame, he had a great routine. I particularly liked the signature drink being just coffee. Regardless, congrats to Pete, he looked very precise in his routine, and the 3rd placed guy from El Salvador - only 12 months a barista!? Watch for him in future years!

Imagine if someone suggested doing what Matt did on this forum ...

"Hi all, I'm trying to use a bulk grinder to make espresso. Runs pretty fast unless I do a nutating tamp. Here's a video of my pours. BTW, I'm pulling my espresso into cold cups. Let me know what you think."

ROFL! Reminds of the time when someone put a pretty ordinary looking photo up on a photography forum done by a famous photographer and the photo costed millions!

We can be quite closed minded sometimes...

I happened to be sitting next to one of the prelim/semi finals judges during the finals (I'm not special, just a coincidence). I asked her if it was hard to switch off from being a judge and just enjoy being a spectator. I assumed she would say yes but she answered with a definite no, simply because the taste scoring is weighted 2-4 times that of other parts, so if you can't taste what they're serving...you really can't know how well they're doing. Interesting.
So the fact that Matt spilled a small amount, albeit a bit messy, probably didn't hinder him too much. I thought his attempt to break convention was great, would have loved to taste it.

I'd love to taste it too. Any CSs tried what they do where he works??

Matt scored 625 (prelim), 624 (semi), and 619 (final) - so that milk might have been the cause of a small number of dropped points.

Pete Licata's final score was 631 (625 and 603 previously) so he obviously pulled something special out for the final.
