Re: World Barista Championships 2012 - Vienna

Thanks for that Andy, its the first bit of decent footage I have seen!

Its a pity they use livestream for the official footage, the quality is virtually un-watchable. There are much better options out there these days that provide good quality video feeds.

It might be a local bandwith problem?

For me the livestream footage was amazing.  Well filmed and well edited (live mixing on the fly).  A few people complained about the music/commentator volumes but Stephanie from WCE tweaked it during the Barista comp and everyone was happy.

There are quality settings at the bottom of the frame, they look similar to a mobile phone signal quality.  If you have the bandwidth it runs full screen ok.

The WCE videos are still on-line, maybe try watching them again on a better connection?

edit: Attached below is a screen shot I just grabbed.

Interesting Andy, I have a super fast ADSL2+ connection (close to the exchange on good copper), so unless it somehow is auto detecting the incorrect bandwidth I am not sure what the problem is. There is no way i can watch it full screen, its just rubbish quality.

        I will have another look.

Yeah, the stream was pretty average quality - looked to be around 300-400kbps tops. The key is to watch it in a small frame!

The Livestream team seem to be using Tricasters for their onsite encoding so the quality is definitely there, it just comes down to the size of the pipe they had access to in Austria for uploading to their servers probably in New York...

I watched most of the events on my TV via Boxee box, it was decent enough. I did complain about the volume of the music and some of the mics (voice) clipping at times, it was all mixed on the fly, so yeah, still pretty excellent. Cant complain, could have had nothing at all!
